Southern Cross Constellation
This Consteallation is on the Australia State Flag, and can be seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Perth with my Aunt Ginny, Uncle John, and cousin Kelly
For 10 days, we were staying with my dad's sister, Ginny. With the 3 other times that my father has been to Australia, all have been in City Beach near Perth. At first I wondered why he didn't branch out and see the rest of this enormous country, but now I can see why! Perth and Western Australia are amazing. This is what California should look like, with it's blue and green waters, not too overcrowded city, wonderful restaurants, and laid back friendly attitude. For 10 days we traveled south, north, and even futher west by boat. The hospitality of my aunt and uncle, while also enjoying all the amazing sights with my father , made this part of the trip an unforgettable beginning. In the following blog, I'm only going to touch on a few specific things that we did, or you all might be here for 10 days just reading it. 😊 Enjoy the stories and pictures.
Fremantle, Perth, and City Beach Perth is Australia's 3rd largest city at around 1.5 million people. With the houses being more contemporary and modern then expected and the waters
My Relatives Home
Great Oceanviews. I had an amazing time out here. being so clear and clean looking that I wanted to drink them, I found myself alreadying loving it after 1 day. My aunt and uncle live in City Beach, which is an western suburb of Perth city. From their lovely house that they built 22 years ago, the view of the sun setting into the water made every night a special one. The island of Rottsnest faintly shining in the distance while cargo ships, sail boats, and kite surfers quietly moved around in the foreground. The clouds rarely constricted the sunsets, and on frequent nights we would eat on their balcony with a traditional barbie, some Australian wine, and chatter on the past and upcoming events.
After long days of sightseeing, bike rides along the beach, or just days that were too hot, we would jump in their refreshing pool for a dip. Iced coffees are also very big out here, and Ginny frequently contributed these our way using instant coffee, ice cubes, and ice cream.
We toured many places around Perth, some old, some new. Fremantle was one of the oldest towns in Perth, and being renovated frequently by the Notre Dame Unniversity, was kept in a
Sunset from porch
Just 1 example of the great sunsets I saw from their balcony. very nice condition. Circirling around a fishing, shipping, and cargo kind of feel, the wharf was packed with fish places serving up the freshest catches. The main town had shops, a maritime museums, the infamous Fremantle Prison, Round House, hostels and hotels, and some restaurants. It was always bustling with locals, tourists, and backpackers. Also enjoyable, was a smal brewery/restaurant called Little Creatures, which my cousin Kelly highly recommended. The food was excellent in a small tapas kind of feel, and the beers were cold and tasty. Still to this day, the beers from around the world completely smash the American beers in taste and quality. (exception Fat Tire)
Kings Park Downtown Perth has a wonderful feature called
King's Park. This giant park sits on top of a hill overlooking the Swan River and the city skyline. The narrows bridge, recently widened, sits below the park with a frequent row of cars traveling from North Perth to South Perth. A ferry even jetties across allowing some commuters to go by boat when traffic is heavy. In the park, approximately 4000 trees make up whole rows of wonderful tree tunnels, with
dedicated plaques listing the fallen Australian soliders below. Further around
City Beach
The beach down the street from my Aunt and Uncle's wonderful house. the border of the park, we walked along a tree bridge and saw some amazing flowers, trees, and birds, all monitored and watched over by volunteers. This is a truly amazing park and well worth the visit to Perth.

Living it up on the wrong side of the road
Hellloooooo Nathan, It is great reading about your travel experiences. You have a wonderful way of describing the details and nuances in such a way that one surely feels like they are traveling right along with you. City Beach looks like it would be fun, especially with the tranquil waters. And how perfect you are sharing it with relatives. Great memories for you all. I know all too well how tricky it is driving on the opposite side of the road. Try doing that in London sometime. As you know, you learn real fast. But the challenge is fun and quite rewarding, especially for you with stops at the Pinnacles, Koala habitat and Crystal Caves. Nice! As always, your pictures enhance your terrific stories. I don't know how you took a picture of the Southern Cross Constellation but that was cool. Great beach shots, Pinnacles at sunset, Koalas and Kangaroos posing. Keep having fun! - Mike
