Well, it had to happen one day and let's face it, it's been a long time coming and I know for some of our regular readers we have been very remiss in publishing blogs, which is not for the want of doing it, we just have not had the time and life got busy, work got in the way and our social life is pretty hectic nowadays. Today is a big day for Andy and I, huge as a Matter of fact and for the past 6 weeks we have been living with anticipation and what felt like constant paper work and phone calls. So, the waiting is over and as I type this in 22 minutes time we pick up the keys to our new house. Yes, "our new house" which of course will be ... read more

he next day I got up over an hour earlier at around nine o’clock for a bit of a longer trip for birding. We headed to a slightly further away area to visit some parts around Beelu National Park. We parked in a place called Fred Jacoby Park which is an area planted with some introduced plants however despite this some slightly more unusual birds were around including Grey Currawong and Splendid Fairy-wren. We then continued further away, passing a few extremely noisy Red-tailed Black Cockatoos, and into some more natural woodland where some very cool birds started to turn up. These included several lifers such as Varied Sitella, Western Spinebill, Western Yellow Robin, and some unusual birds that I had seen in the past such as Rufous Treecreeper, Golden Whistler, and Red-capped Parrot and I ... read more

Today we had a working Bee at the Black Cockatoo Society at Kaarakin, as 28 clubs who are in the Western Australian 4 wheel drive association use their facilities free of charge the only reparation we have to do is a couple of working bee’s throughout the year, so everyone is happy. The weather is ramping up Friday was a pretty warm 33 degree’s and Saturday was forecast to be a whopping 38 degree’s, not bad for Spring. We were late to bed last night, as you have read in our last blog with Floretta’s 60th Birthday, we fell into bed at 11.45 absolutely knackered and we had promised ourselves we would be up at 6.00am to go and have a run, in the cool of the morning. When we were driving home last night the ... read more

Yep it's because suddenly the distances have narrowed down and the towns are full of food and water so we are buying up BIIG. Tim Tams, fresh bread, fresh vegies and fruit. Joghurt, milk, amazing goodies! Reached Geraldon via Kalbarri and a few bush camping spots. Windsurfers are out in full force which made me pretty titchi to say the least 'cause where is my board ???? Highlights? Probably a night spent under the stars, so quiet, just us and a few falling stars (meteorites) which made me wish....... Another highlight sunset at Kalbarri Gorge. The flies just about retired and it got a bit cooler. Biggest highlight... We took Kalimera van into Cape Peron NP. Sand track out to the tip. Let the tyres down and camped near the beaches with red red rock behind. ... read more

Plans to head north are on hold just a bit longer as we wait until Friday to get a few running repairs on the van's pop top completed. Still there's plenty to see and do. On Tuesday we decided to go to the flicks to see The Avengers and all in all a pretty entertaining movie to see on the big screen. On Wednesday morning we headed up to John Forrest National Park to have a look at what was on offer. For those needing some motivation to get out in the open doors this Park does have a tavern on-site which is a rarity. It was a lovely drive winding through to the area where we decided to take a hike. We were in the heart of the Park surrounded by bushland but the hiking ... read more

Completely exhausted. Our flight this morning out of Adelaide wasn't too early so we still had time to pack and do a speed clean at Shay and Jackie's without getting up with the street lights still on. Shay had the day off and took us to the airport in the morning which was nice as it gave me more time to hang out with my little sis. I thought there might have been an ulterior motive in offering to walk us inside the terminal though and that hunch proved correct when Shay cashed in at the donut shop..........I hope you saved Lil Al one :) When you're hungover, overtired and generally hating the world, sitting on a plane is the last place you want to be. Fortunately it was over soon enough and we collected our ... read more

Our flight to Adelaide was not until late afternoon so we took a drive to nearby Kalamunda in the Perth foothills. If I had to draw a parallel with a location in Adelaide I would have to say that this town is very much like Stirling in the Adelaide Hills. There were plenty of little shops and book stores along the main drag to keep us amused and the best bit of the morning was having a coffee at a French patisserie. With coffee you need cake and so we selected an almond croissant which went down a treat. Early afternoon we headed off to a friend's place about 40 minutes out of Perth. They have a property with horses and with a bit of extra room around the place we were able to leave our ... read more

Our return to the City of Churches is fast approaching so we decided to spend the final few stages of phase one of the around Australia trip pottering around and doing not a lot of anything in particular. Oh and don't worry, the return trip to Adelaide is just a short one (for a wedding and related festivities) so the blogs and photos of our travels will continue. Saturday was spent simply enjoying the sun in the caravan park and doing as we pleased. Reading, walking, swimming and the odd snooze here and there was the order of the day. On Sunday we headed to Mandurah (south of Perth) and I have just discovered it is the second largest city in WA. The purpose of the visit was to catch up with my cousin Danni who ... read more

On Tuesday we needed to remedy a problem we had inadvertently created by failing to leave the house key with the owners from the house sit in Bunbury. Off we headed mid-morning for another drive to the south-west but the weather remained perfect and we arrived in Bunbury just before lunch. After returning the key, pottering around the main street and having some lunch we headed back to Forrestfield. The temperature was on the rise (mid-30s) so by the time we made it back to the caravan park the pool was a welcome relief. Wednesday had us setting off to Subiaco to explore another pocket of Perth we had not yet ventured into. This is a very exclusive suburb that is visually beautiful with immaculate suburban streets and sprawling urban gardens and parks. The shops and ... read more
