Pippa Pajero, Perth
After only 4 days in Oz - our new toy Good day all
We hope this message finds you fit and well.
Firstly apologies to family and friends who have recently celebrated birthdays for failing to send you our wishes but we've had something on our minds - a car!
Unfortunately Trev and I were involved in a serious car accident on Friday 1 May trying to outrun a cyclone that was due to hit Coral Bay/Exmouth area in Western Australia where we were staying. We hit a big patch of standing water, lost control of our lovely 'Pippa' Pajero which flipped and rolled a few times and crashed on the opposite side of the highway. Verity was very lucky to walk away with only a fractured right wrist and a laceration on the same arm that required stiches. Poor Trev came off far worse with compound depressed skull fracture, unstable broken neck (C6&7), lost half his scalp, a multitude of cuts and bruises and is now bald apart from some hair around the back of his neck.
We ended up at Nichol Bay Hospital in Karratha in two ambulances, which funnily enough was where we were heading to
Bell Tower, Perth
The bells were a gift from St Martin-in-the-Fields London stay in a lodge there as we knew being under canvas until the cyclone had passed was out of the question. Due to the extent of Trev's injuries he was flown down to Royal Perth Hospital on the Saturday, 1000 miles away, and I followed 2 days later. He has had 3 ops in the last 4 days and seems to be well on the mend. His positive attitude and strength of character are blowing the docs and nurses away. Hopefully he'll be released in the next 5-7 days, however, there will be many outpatient appointments to follow so we will be staying in Perth for a couple of months recouperating.
Prior to the accident we were having an amazing time travelling up north along the coast. There are just so many wonderful places to stop and see that we hadn't got very far, only about 600 miles. After enjoying the delights of Perth, sourcing a 4x4 and camping gear we drove to Swan Valley, a mere 15 miles away where we spent a few days before moving onto Cervantes, Geraldton, Kalbarri, Carnarvon, Denham (Shark Bay) and Coral Bay, spending a few days in each place. Highlights
Kings Park, Perth
The beautiful war memorial included Pinnacles National Park, off-road driving in Francois Peron National Park, Shark Bay, feeding the dolphins at Monkey Mia, the fascinating Space & Communications Museum in Carnarvon, scuba diving on the outer reef at Ningaloo and swimming with the massive manta rays.
Sorry no photos at the moment as our tablet, along with most of our possessions, was lost or destroyed in the accident. We do, however, have the memory card somewhere and will add pictures at a later date.
Lots of love to all
Trev and Verity xxx

Sending Love to you both
My goodness, what a shock to read this. What a terrible accident - thank goodness you are both still with us and are recovering. Keep positive Trevor - you are a brave man and your positive attitude will be such a great healer. Verity, look after yourself too - wish we were there with you. We send our love across the world to you both. Annette & Phil xx
