Hi everyone
Have to catch up on a few days now as I haven't had any wifi. So what did I get up to at the weekend - Julie and Gary and Leanne came to join me at Busselton Beach Resort and we had lots of fun. After another drive and look around Margaret River- more wine ,cheese, cakes and chocolate we returned and went swimming in the pool...Having previously thought I might be an axe-murderer Julie now thinks I am just a madwoman - just because I went swimming in the pool... I thought it was warm enough - she thinks I am mad. I think 9 years in Oz has turned her into a wimp!!! And I believe she was once a champion butterfly stroke swimmer. Sorry Julie - haha. Leanne and I did persuade her to come in for a dip as you can see in the fotos... and to warm up there was the spa...lovely!! An experience not to be missed was the last Drive -in Movie in WA and so off we went to see a nice family movie....gone are the tinny sounding speakers that you had to cclip on the car windows...now you listen via
your car radio. Back to the apartment and Iwas initiated into a new card game...fortunately we were playing with bottle tops, Gary's money and popcorn or I would have lost all my holiday money....and Leanne would be very rich. Sunday morning saw me at the IGA supermarket early to get supplies to make a big brekki and after more swimming , loafing round the pool I had to say goodbye to my new friends. What a lovely family they are and Leanne is such a great girl - I can say what good parents they are too.
So a walk to the Geographe Bay Marina then saw me watch the sun go down with a cider ending a good week's stay. Oh - forgot - wildlife report - seem to have a possum visitng my balcony at night and blue tongue lizards plodding around the gardens,
Monday I left early to drive to Pemberton. I drove down the coast to Augusta to the lighthouse at the point where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. As I stood there I thought that my dad, who was in the Merchant Navy, must have sailed past there many times.
So on the way
to Pemberton I was driving through magnificent forests for mile upon mile- Karri trees towering above you , smell from the wildlfowers at the side of the road wafting in through the car windows...I cannot describe these forests - never seen anything like it. Took a few side trips on the red gravel roads and wished I had a 4WD... but the car managed it....fortunatley. Fire prevention here can mean controlled burns and that was happening in some areas as I was driving along - a huge cloud of smoke towered ahead of me , then the sky was red and yellow with the sun blocked out- just like in Gone with the Wind - I thought. It was a bit scarey but I saw the signs about the controlled burn so I knew that if there was any danger the road would have been closed. Ever hopeful!!!
Back into the hazy sunshine I was booked into the YHA at Pemberton and it was a cosy bungalow with a lovely garden so can recommend that to anyone- a private room with a queen bed only $38. After all that driving I thought I better stretch my legs so around Big
Broke Dam I went -4km in an hour and beautiful reflections of the trees in the water....and yes Terry I had my phone!!!! and trek stick in case there were any snakes!!!!!
A very good night sleep and a very comfy bed - up again early to tackle to rest of my drive to Albany and more trees. To be continued later.
