Another early start - we are getting good at these!! Due to the hour time change the dolphins generally come into Monkey Mia an hour earlier now - don't they have watches??!! They come into the shore and get a couple of fish each! the staff pick people randomly out of the crowd to give them a fish to eat but you are not allowed to touch them as there have been problems in the past with disease. when they came in, it was amazing, there's a baby calf dolphin as well that's 2 weeks old that can't seem to swim properly yet, he kinda wiggles his bum at the wrong times!! it's funny but cute! the dolphins are wild dolphins but come to monkey Mia as they know they will get food. they just com ... read more

6am breakie - damn that alarm! But everyone is looking forward to seeing the dolphins so on we go. We arrive just after 7am and the Dolphins are already there and waiting for us - it's amazing to think that these are all wild and choose to come here themselves - so much better than seeing them at a Zoo. One of them has a young calf so we have to be careful as the mother is very protective - but the baby is so cute and cheeky! The guides tell us a bit about them and explain that a couple of years ago they just used to sell buckets of fish to the tourists to feed the dolphins and they were free to touch them as they pleased. However as the Dolphins were then becoming ... read more

Brochure Text: • Kalbarri National Park • Natures Window/Z-Bend • Bushwalk • Shark Bay • Monkey Mia This morning, we have a short drive to Kalbarri National Park where we begin the day with a bush walk to check out the magnificent views of the Murchison River - Z-bend where (time permitting) you can take a cool freshwater dip and then the famous Natures Window . We continue north to Shark Bay which takes us through station country, where we cross Meadow and Nerren Nerren sheep stations, and another opportunity for wildflowers in season. Next stop is to visit the Stromatolites (the oldest living things on the planet) and then on to Shell Beach , probably the longest shell beach in the world. Now onto Denham (the most westerly town in Australia) for an important bottle ... read more

Shark Bay and Monkey Mia We set off from Coral Bay on the morning of the 26th September, ready to continue our journey south, via the town of Carnarvon and Shark Bay, most famous for the regular dolphin visits at Monkey Mia. After only a few hours we got to the town of Canarvon, one of the biggest towns on the coast, but still only a little bigger than Knowle! We managed to find somewhere to send the postcards and check our emails, but didn’t fancy staying long in the town itself as it lacked any character and had a surprising amount of drunks wandering the streets at this hour of the morning! We decided to head out of the city and have a look at Carnarvon’s most famous landmark, its One Mile Jetty. It ... read more

Though we finally felt like we were on holiday and stayed for around 5 days in total. Gorgeous weather & gorgeous beaches.. the perfect place to start relaxing and feeling like were on holiday again... so we spent 5 days doing just that. We spent our time chilling on the beach, cockle fishing, paddle boating, swimming with the local dolphins and on our last night joined an Aboriginal night tour. This did though turn out to more of just a talk though to be fair but still good. The same tour guide also did day tours where you would learn to trough spears and track indigenous animals and other of the sort but we never got around to doing though. We were really looking forward to our next stop.. being Coral Bay, as the ningaloo reef ... read more

It was a long, long journey from Kalbarri to Monkey Mia (pronounced my-ah), but we put the foot down and rattled out the 500+ km without stopping very long anywhere. By the time we reached Denham, however, we deserved a break and we used the free hotplates along the boardwalk, to cook ourselves up some delicious toasted sandwiches. Since the peninsula of Shark Bay is a world heritage listed site, we had to ask at the county offices for permission to camp at the remote Eagle Bluff, 20 kilometres before Denham. This we planned for the following night, on our way out. Meanwhile, it was on to the famous Monkey Mia resort with it's friendly and hungry dolphins. Being the school holidays, we had booked ahead and just as well as the place was packed with ... read more

Just a morning stop in this beautiful place... Monkey Mia. Small bay and lots of dolphins! They come to the bay on their will to get maybe a fish or two and catch the glimps of the locals. Amazing feeling! Not sure who observes who though... The afternoon we went to the 'Shell beach'... the name says it all. No sand here... just lots and lots of shels... Really pristine. Great for a swim... Just as we imagined the Western Australia...... read more

We went back to Monkey Mia and missed the dolphins again!! We hired some snorkels and did some snorkelling which was good but cold! OUt of the water we saw 2 stingray pass as well. OUr plan was to go up to Exmouth in the week but someone told us it was another 12 hour drive up the coast and as we had already driven 12 hours we decided against it as we would have spent most the week driving and the roads are VERY boring!... read more
