We were all up early this morning to grab some breakfast and then get down to the beach to see the dolphins. The crowd of people all had to wait up and off the beach so the dolphins would come in. Around 7:45am the first 5 dolphins appeared in the shallow water of the beach. After letting the dolphins adjust we were all allowed to make our way down to the beach and we had to form a single line on the shore. The dolphins would swim in quite close and you could see them stick one of their eyes up out of the water so they could check us all out.
A lady from the resort gave us a talk about the dolphins and how they track them and why they only feed them a few fish. All the dolphins were adult females with their young. There were two adolescent males. After a while more dolphins joined. They only feed the dolphins a small amount of fish because the moms can't leave their babies for too long and need to keep up their hunting. They have some volunteers who get to pick people out of the crowd to feed
the dolphins. Sadly I didn't get picked.
We headed out after we all watched them get fed and packed up. Our next stop was an ocean marine park. They had some tanks set up with all kinds of fish but they also had a big lagoon outside that had sharks in it. We got to see them get fed. Usually they have a tiger shark but not in the winter so I didn't get to see a tiger shark. The guys working there were so knowledgeable about each type of fish. We got to meet Bob the turtle who had part of an arm missing and was recused and brought there.
After the ocean park we headed up further north and stopped to see the stromatolites. They look like rock formations in the shallow water but were the first things on the earth and used to be all over the place. They are a type of bacteria. They were actually quite pretty in a way. I took heaps of photos haha. We had lunch there.
The afternoon was spent mostly in the van driving up north. It felt like we were driving for hours. Not much to
see on the road here as towns are few and far between. Just a few roadhouses. We arrived in Coral Bay at 7 pm. It was my last night with our tour group so we got dressed up and helped make dinner. It was also happy day instead of happy hour so drinks were cheap. We all sat around and played a drinking game before playing some pool. I really liked my group and i'm really going to miss them! They wont leave until late in the day tomorrow but then they head up to Exmouth.
The hostel we are staying at tonight is the place that I will be working for the next week and a bit so I can stay for free. I have to work 2 hours a day around the hostel and get to stay for free. Coral Bay is great! But more about that in the next blog!!!

Love that you got to see dolphins up close! Too bad you didn't get picked for feeding, but oh well...next time ;) Will you be coming back east to see us before you leave the country for good?
