We were up early to get on the road again. Our view for breakfast though was quite amazing. The beach house had stunning views of the ocean which we couldn't see in the dark last night. Our first stop was a place called Pot Alley. It's named that because it's where a lot of the pots used for catching lobsters get washed up after storms. The place is absolutely gorgeous and we had perfect weather for it. We were really lucky to see some dolphins just off the coast as well swimming around.
We then made our went into Kalbarri National park. Our first stop was the Z bend gorge. We had to hike down into the gorge climbing down rocks. So wish I had put shorts on today! It was scorching! Some of the group abseiled down one of the cliffs for an extra price. I just watched and took pictures. Then we hiked down to the actual river gorge. So pretty! Blue sky, red rocks and a green river. Beautiful!
We then had to hike back up. That was the not so fun part. climbing back up the rocks was a lot of work in the heat.
But I made it to the lookout. Stunning views of the area. We drove over to Nature's window which is another rock formation. Grabbed a couple of photo's there and then had lunch.
We all hopped back in the van and kept driving north! So much driving but it's worth it for the stuff i'm getting to see. Our next stop was shell beach. It's a beautiful beach near monkey mia. There is no sand on this beach it is all just shells that have washed up. Tiny little shells. Very beautiful! Took heaps of photos there.
As we continued driving along there was a dead kangaroo on the road and a HUGE wedgetail eagle was having a snack of it. This bird is massive! It flew away as we approached but we did manage to get a bit of a picture of it. We then stopped at a little lagoon to watch the sunset. There were heaps of jumping fish too which was cool.
We finally made it to Monkey Mia and checked into our hostel. It was RIGHT on the beach. Awesome! We cooked dinner and then we got to do an aboriginal culture tour.
Capsey, our guide took us out into the hills behind the beach to tell us about the culture. It was already dark and we had to use flashlights to find our way. Capsey told us all kinds of things and taught us some of his language. It's so different!
We got to sit around a campfire while he told us stories. He also brought out some fresh fish that he caught that day and cooked it right on the coals of the fire for everyone to try. No, I didn't try it. But the girl from Taiwan on our tour LOVED eating all the fish eggs....yuck! Capsey played the didgeridoo for us as well which was really cool. A really neat experience for us all.
