If you have been following our blog, you will see that we have adjusted our travel a little from the map we published earlier. As temperatures at Karijini were getting too high for rock climbing etc, we headed from the Gold Fields firstly to Geraldton, and then to Kalbarri. Our first stop just a little north of Geraldton was to Batavia Coast Caravan Land who have a good reputation for running repairs. In fact, we used them on our last trip for a toilet repair. It was the vacuum toilet again that had been giving us grief by not being able to hold vacuum. We had purchased the required seal and expected the service person in Ceduna to also install the seal. As we reported, he backed off and just sold us the part. The senior ... read more

Hi travel followers. Today we find ourselves setting up camp at Port Gregory (WA) after spending a couple of days at Kalbarri and before that at Hamlin Pool/Shell Beach. After leaving Denham/Monkey Mia we visited Shell Beach as it is one of only two beaches in the world that is covered entirely in "billions upon billions" of extremely small Cockle Shells. The shells are rare as they only grow and thrive in the very salty water of Hamlin Pool which is "twice" as salty as normal sea water. These shells have been growing here and washing up on the shore for thousands of years to the point they have cemented themselves together to make a solid base which the early pioneers (mid 1800's) cut up with saws to make blocks to build houses etc. with. Renowned for ruggedly stunning coastal cliffs and rust red river gorges, Kalbarri offers a wealth of activities and attractions. Kalbarri is a picturesque seaside town located 590 Kms north of Perth, midway along Western Australia’s Coral Coast. The town itself is located on the estuary of the Murchison River, which is an ideal playground for all types of water sports such as swimming, kayaking, fishing or snorkelling in the aqua blue waters. The Kalbarri National Park which covers an area of 186,000 hectares and encircles the town, can be explored by car, on foot or on a canoe or kayak tour through the deep river gorges. South of Kalbarri Coming from Geraldton make sure you stop at Lynton Station, near Port Gregory, and take a stroll around the Lynton convict ruins, where convicts were housed whilst ... read more

We had left Lucky Bay in high spirits on the Monday morning (12thMay) after spending three glorious days in Cape Le Grand National Park, but knew that the price we had to pay for our 'weekend in paradise' was a long (around 800kms) and relatively boring drive back to Perth, before we could start the second part of our trip - heading all the way up the West Coast towards Broome. Unfortunately it wasn't long before we realized that there was a problem with our campervan – it was swallowing fuel at nearly twice the rate it had done throughout the previous two weeks! And with a 40-litre fuel tank to start with this meant that we could only drive 200kms on a full tank of fuel! When I called the roadside assistance line for Wicked ... read more

Saturday 28th September First day, we started our journey from Perth to Kalbarri, after picking up the car at 9am we set off on our 7hour drive, covering nearly 600Km. I got to see some extraordinary sites and what Western Australia is best none for. Travelling through what seemed and kind of looked like the outback and yet covering the ocean road views in the same Journey. Finally getting to drive again felt like an amazing experience and I was so excited for it, even though it seemed like a very long way it was very much worth every minute. On our journey we stopped at Jurien Bay for a pit stop to stretch the legs and then later stopped to get some dinner in Geraldton. This seemed like a very nice place and a great ... read more

It's our final Indian Ocean stop before we head inland on our trip home. Kalbarri is yet another great WA coastal spot with all you need, or should I say I need, surf, fishing, a river and not to mention a pub that over looks the water. Thumbs up.... read more

Today we drove from Monkey Mia to Kalbarri. When we got to Kalbarri I went for play on the play area, then we had dinner, then we went to bed. The next day we went to Ross Graham lookout and did a big walk into the gorge. Then we went to Hawks Head, Red Bluff and Mushroom Rock. At Mushroom Rock we saw three humpback whales.... read more

What an exciting and rewarding day we have had! Not as cold as yesterday, in fact getting to a top of 24C this afternoon. After all the normal household chores we headed out to Rainbow Jungle on the southern outskirts of Kalbarri. Along the way we picked up bread and vanilla slice from the local bakery for lunch. We had heard good reports of Rainbow Jungle, so decided to spend an hour in their aviaries. Well, the hour actually went on to be 2 hours. If you enjoy bird photography, this is a good place to see a variety of parrots (big and small), many in a free flying aviary. There are some exceptions. The macaws, well they are accessible but not free to fly when the public are there. There was a pair of juvenile ... read more
