Saturday 28th September First day, we started our journey from Perth to Kalbarri, after picking up the car at 9am we set off on our 7hour drive, covering nearly 600Km. I got to see some extraordinary sites and what Western Australia is best none for. Travelling through what seemed and kind of looked like the outback and yet covering the ocean road views in the same Journey.
Finally getting to drive again felt like an amazing experience and I was so excited for it, even though it seemed like a very long way it was very much worth every minute. On our journey we stopped at Jurien Bay for a pit stop to stretch the legs and then later stopped to get some dinner in Geraldton. This seemed like a very nice place and a great seaside beach town. Somewhere I hope to stop again on the way back maybe.
Kalbarri, finally we reached the first stop off on our adventure to Exmouth. Driving through Kalbarri national park at around sunset was beautiful although I was a little uncertain about a kangaroo jumping out in front of me! We stopped at this place close by to
the hostel called Pot Alley, despite the name was very pretty with cliffs and the waves crashing up, Very different atmosphere to what I had seen when travelling down in the south-west. That was the first down to our adventure and there was a lot more great memories still to come.
Sunday 29th September Second day of our road trip, after out night at Kalbarri, we headed off on our next mission towards coral bay. This was looking to be about a 9 hour drive covering a huge distance of about 660Km’s. Setting off fairly early and we were heading to Kalbarri National park, were we got to see some different areas like Hawks Head and Ross Graham, two beautiful look out points where you could see over the gorges and get some spectacular photographs. We didn’t have time to stay for long, which may have been a good thing after being attacked by flies.
We carried on the journey for a few more hours where we stopped at a pit stop café, and then carried onto Carnarvon where we grabbed some food and carried on before eventually reaching Coral Bay. On the
way we did try having a game of I spy between us, although this game didn’t go on for to long as there wasn’t a great deal to look at. You soon run out after the basics of sky, sand and bush.
Although we didn’t get to Coral Bay until later, our first stop was to put up the tent. We had borrowed what we thought was the 4 man tent from Erica Underwood (which Is our residence) which actually turned out to be the 8 man tent. This became quite a challenge putting this up between 3 of us in the wind as well. We then soon made our way to the Pub, where we met a few others who were the typical ‘aussies’. After a few drinks we went down to the pub closer to our tent, carried on having a couple more drinks, trying to make the night ahead a little more comfortable as I didn’t bring the mats due to them not fitting in the car.
