ESPERANCE TO PORT DENISON
Sorry for the delay in updating the blog, I got a bit lazy. It won’t happen again.
Monday 26th April, Overcast and cool, but we decided to take the Wildlife Cruise out to Woody Island.
It was a bit rough but we managed to get through OK. We saw some sea eagles, seals, sea lion & dolphins on the way to Woody Island. We had about 25 aboriginal boys from the Pilbara on the cruise, who were down in Esperance studying. They had a ball.
Tuesday 27th April, Up early and WE went for a bike ride along the Esperance foreshore. Pam’s backside took a while to recover from that. We saw Sammy the seal near the pier, apparently he lives there all of the time. Our unfriendly neighbours left today, we were very pleased to see them go.
Wednesday 28th April, We drove up to the Esperance Lookout and did the coastal Walk for about 45 minutes, then we drove along the Tourist route and went down to a few of the beaches along the way.
I played bowls in the afternoon on their very fast synthetic green. Not really much fun.
Thursday 29th April, Left Esperance about 8-15 and drove the 391 kilometres to Wave Rock. A long way.
Parked the van and did most of the walks around Wave Rock. Quite spectacular. They have the friendliest
Flies that you will find anywhere. Just as well Pam had packed some fly nets. Met a nice couple from glen Waverley and chatted to them for quite a while.
Friday 30th April, we left Wave Rock and headed for Perth where we checked into Karrinyup Waters caravan park for 5 days. A very nice park with a lake and many water birds walking around most of the time. Had a relaxing afternoon doing not much at all.
Saturday 1st May, Phoned our friends, Donna and Richard who we met on our trip on the Ghan the year before last, and organized a lunch date for Sunday. We then went shopping and drove down the coast towards Perth. Another relaxing afternoon snoozing and reading.
Sunday 2nd May, we had lunch with Donna and Richard and Portafino’s at Hilary’s Wharf where we had the biggest chicken schnitzel you will find anywhere. Beautiful. After lunch we went for another walk along the
beach and went back to the park to relax.
Monday 3rd May, Pam’s birthday. We drove to the rail station and went into Perth by train and then took the ferry along the Swan River to Fremantle. Very nice. Fremantle is very old and closed in, we walked around for a while, had some lunch and caught the train back to Perth and then to our car. More shopping and relaxing. Pam’s cousin Vicki invited us for dinner and it was great to catch up her and with all of the family gossip. It was good to see her so fit and well.
Tuesday 4th May, Rest day. Sat around reading and resting before packing up to leave Perth tomorrow.
Wednesday 5th May, Left early and eventually found the highway north, it was a long way out of town.
Not much to see along the way and we arrived at Port Denison around 12-30 where we booked in for 3 days then extended it to 5 days later that day as it was such a nice place. The Big 4 caravan park is right on the waters edge and you can hear the waves all day and
night.
Thursday 6th May, decided to go for another walk along the foreshore towards Dongara, past a wetlands where there were many birds to see, and up the hill and around through the streets back to Port Denison.
The park owners put on biscuits and nibbles in the evening, a nice touch.
Friday 7th May, Drove to Dongara where we walked around the town for about an hour. It is an old fishing village established in 1835. I played bowls in the afternoon. It was very enjoyable as we played scroungers. They were a very friendly group.
Saturday 8th May, Didn’t do a lot, but we went for another walk in the afternoon. We are definitely getting fitter each day. Don’t know if we have lost any weight though.
Sunday 9th May, Had pancakes put on by the park owners where we met some more travelers. Another nice touch. Another long walk along South Beach for about half an hour then turned around and came back.
Very peaceful. We had a Mothers Day video call from Steve and the girls. It was great to hear from them again. We are leaving tomorrow to go to Kalbarri.
I will try to keep more up to date from now on.
