A dosa Curry
This was our Masala Dosa Yum, it was good Hi All,
I appreciate this is our travel blog, but to be fair its also about our new life in Australia, well our life over the last seven years really so I guess this blog is validated.
Now we are not what you call “Whingeing Poms” never have, never will as we have adopted this amazing place we now call home and never say, oh we can’t get this or that was better back in the UK, because I don’t think its realistic to do that, my opinion is, if you don't like what you are offered here, go where you can get it some where else and as far as we are concerned we like what we get.
Now as you know, one thing Caroline and I love is a good curry and managed to perfect our own signature Kangaroojack curry when we were travelling, but we are always on the lookout for a good restaurant to eat in.
At present we are back in lovely Fremantle in between house sits and were alerted to this restaurant the Copper Chimney in South Terrace, South Fremantle, does as a little quizzy thing did you know Ben Elton the British comedian lives in Fremantle, well there you go, you learn something every day.
We gave it a whirl last Friday, we both went for a traditional curry with rice and trimmings and it was very very good and whilst we were being served the waitress said you really want to try the “Dosa”
So last night we went back after a little bit of research and we were very keen to try the Masala Dosa.
This was a brand new experience for us and we were excited(Thank you Alan Fealy) for the heads up on this.
Dosa, what is it, it looks like a giant Brandy snap, with different fillings, and we had chosen a Masala Dosa stuffed with Spiced potatoes and when it arrived at the table it looked ridiculously large, but when you inspect it there is only a smallish amount of potatoe inside at the centre and the chef breaks open a little chimney hole for the steam to escape.
The ends of the Dosa are really crispy, and you need to be fairly quick in eating it as the hot steam from the potatoe starts to make the Dosa softer in the centre, you are given a coconut type paste and a very hot curry type sauce to compliment the dish
This Dosa was shared between the two of us and we had to have a typical Chicken Madras as well to share or the Dosa would not have been enough.
I thought I would put in what Wikipedia have to say on this tasty dish. Dosa is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils. It is a staple dish in South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil nadu, Kerala and Telangana. It is also popular in other parts of India, and other countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Singapore.
It is a common breakfast dish and street food is high in carbohydrates, and contains no sugar or saturated fats. As its constituent ingredients are rice and urad dal (Vigna mungo), it is also a source of protein. The fermentation process increases the vitamin B and vitamin C content.
So that’s it, if you want a great curry or Dosa and you live in Western Australia, well Perth as Western Australia in big then drop in to the Copper Chimney and give it a whizz you won’t be disappointed.
