Broome
Drove around a bit. Out to the Port. Not much happening there. Still lovely blue/green water.
Stopped in CBD, but being a holiday not much was happening. We did the tour of the Pearl Luggers.
Stories of old time pearl/mother-of-pearl diving and a lot of old artifacts from ‘olden’ days. Mother-of-Pearl was the sought after thing, not pearls, back in the later 1800’s/early 1900’s. Dangerous diving with the brass helmet and canvas suit. Fortunes lost and won.
Didn’t spend the money for the tour showing the newer pearling, which is artificially making the oyster create pearls. Done on ‘farms’ and 2 years to make a pearl. Interesting stuff.
A lazy day, other than the above.

Broome to 80 mile beach
Scenery West of Broome pretty flat, with few if any trees. Then further on the trees were pretty thick, but only 2-3m tall. Just enough so you couldn’t see over top of them to see what was around.
Very Windy.
Forgot to mention that Broome is on the Indian Ocean!!!
80mile beach. Nice caravan park. Met more friendly caravaners. Amenities blocks were each pretty small, but there were a number of them. Nice and clean.
The 10km road into the caravan park was corrugated (washboard) and bumpy as he -double hockey sticks, ll, that is
Very low tide and the slope is so gradual that the actual waves are really far away. Walked around a bit gathering a few sea shells. Lots and lots of them around.
Watched an intrepid 4wd guy venture out onto the beach and he went just a little too far. Got himself stuck. Had to have someone come out and they connected their winch cables together and managed to get him out. A lot of people were waiting for the sunset and got some extra entertainment.
We didn’t watch the sunset, much to my chagrin. As just after it set, the sky was bright red, through the trees.

80 Mile beach to Karratha
We have railway tracks again. Going into Port Hedland. Must be the iron ore that’s being exported.
Pretty desolate country side, approaching PH. Sorry folks!!
Pilbra Holiday park in Karratha. Aspen/Big 4 park. Really nice park. Very wide paved roads with space to park vehicles on either side. Meaning you don’t need to park the SUV/Ute on the site. Large concrete slab and grass
to the side. Clean, well maintained amenities. AND lots and lots of cabins. And more being installed for crews from the new/expanded gas field off the coast. Don’t know how that will affect the caravan park!!!
Most expensive place we have stayed. Power site for 2, $42.00!!!!

So far about 9200km.
Karratha to Exmouth
Called Coral Bay caravan park, but they were full. So going to Exmouth. School vacation for this and next week might make things a bit tough, getting camping spots.
Big sign as we left Karratha. NO drinking water for next 632k. So guess it will be bottled water for a couple of days.
After turning off of highway #1 toward Exmouth, we didn’t see any vehicles for 79km. As soon as we made the next turn, like a freeway. 4 vehicles right after another.
And we finally saw some wild life again. Sheep, goats, and the more mundane cattle.
Windy here in Exmouth, but nice and warm. Cooler nights!
