Day 7
A 6.30am start. Actually saw the rest stop properly in daylight and it was a great rest stop with pit toilets and bins. A pleasant change to see a clean well kept rest stop that was slightly away from the highway too. The sky looks depressing though as we headed towards Norseman. As soon I reached Norseman and within phone coverage I called Andre. He was at Ravensthorpe. That means I was only 10km further than he was to Esperance. WOW. Really felt rejuvenated now Praise the Lord. In Norseman it poured with a heavy downpour. In fact the rain will continue to follow us for days. We reached Esperance around 10am. Andre & Linda arrived first and were already at the tourist info getting the WA National Park pass and the throw net fishing licence. When we arrived at the tourist info they had already left to do some shopping. We are now in UHF coverage and able to communicate our movements. I can’t stress the importance of UHF when travelling in convoys. Well worth the investment. Andre was told by the tourist info that there were limited spots at Cape Le Grand National Park and advised us

to get there before lunch. So we basically rushed to get our National Park pass. We paid $40 for 1 month. We then quickly headed to Woolworths to stock up. Woolies were so busy. Esperance was a buzz with tourist people. It was a small lovely town. We started our journey towards Cape Le Grand and finally meeting up with Andre & Linda on the road. After a week of travelling alone it’s great to have company on the road. It’s only about 30kms to Cape Le Grand NP and we had patches of rain. As we entered Cape Le Grand it was nothing short of spectacular. WOW what a start. God’s creation and wonder. The granite peaks, whitest beaches, clear blue sea and surf. We had 2 choices to camp and Andre decided to camp at Lucky Bay. This I believe ended being the better choice. We were fortunate that the camp boss allowed Andre & Linda to camp with us in the caravan spots. So we camped beside each other. The camp boss were campers, they worked for the National Park by collecting fees and cleaning toilets for free camping. They have been there for a month. The camp was clean with kitchen, hot showers, flushed toilets, drinking water, and BBQ plates. We set up camp. I was determined to catch this stowaway mouse in my camper. We took everything out of the camper. Andre eventually caught it with his hands(he had gloves). I kept the mouse in a tin hoping to hand it over to a ranger. We then headed down to the beach. It was the whitest beach. The texture feels funny when you walk on it. In fact Andre doesn’t feel comfortable walking on it. There was a lot of sea weed on the beach too. The waves were strong and the water is crystal clear. The water was very cold but that didn’t stop the boys getting wet in it. There were people driving on the beaches and fishing off the beach. Cooked a roast on the Cobb cooker and baked a cake in it. It was fitting as it was Linda’s b’day yesterday.
