We have had a great couple of days. Yesterday we went on a tour to the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. Once we'd had afternoon tea, we were taken by boat into the creek - a beautiful blue, as are all the waterways here - and were shown the pearl shells which are kept in cages underwater to show the tourists. Most pearl shells are farmed a few kilometres out in the ocean. We were then taken on a little trip up the creek, viewing their resident crocodile and a huge brahminy kite's nest and then back to the Farm to listen to a talk on how the shells are seeded and the way they're farmed. The visit concluded with a tour of their shop but Doug wouldn't fork out the necessary $100,000 for the necklace I'd ... read more

DAY 206 Up here just inside the edge of the Kimberley’s in the Northern part of Western Australia, it is the first official day of winter, it is around 36 Degree’s and hot, hot, hot. We are heading towards Darwin and have been advised that this time of year is when the “Grey Nomads” are on their travels, these are people who have retired, and are enjoying the life of travelling and following the sun. It gets busy in the North and the 1st June means peak season has arrived along with the higher prices. We get out of bed just before 7.00am, Ken, Josh & Jodie have gone for a walk as we watched them out of the fly screen walking into the distance. They will be walking on the beach by that nice lagoon ... read more

Hi All I have just seen Matt off to the airport for his flight home to Sydney, so I am back travelling on my own again. I have to admit that seeing Matt walk through the departure terminal to board his flight to Sydney gave me a slight sense of homesickness, however it won’t take me long to get back into the solo travelling routine again. On Wednesday afternoon we visited the Willie Creek Pearl Farm, where tours are conducted in which you can learn how the cultured pearl is created. For those who are not aware, the cultured pearl (the spherical variety) is created through the insertion of a small foreign matter (a piece of pearl shell) into the gonad (yes ... the gonad) of the pearl oyster via a small incision, from where the ... read more

After a very dusty and corrugate trek of some 170km into the Dampier Peninsula we pulled into Middle Lagoon Camping Area, a very rustic bush camp with lots of shady camp site options. After locating a prime spot we set up camp then headed to the lagoon to put in the tinnie and have a swim. This was a great place to go swimming, fishing and generally relax in a peaceful setting. Each morning the little girls, Matt and I set out in the tinnie across the bay to fish in a small river inlet. (While Tahlia enjoyed a quiet sleep in!) The water in the river was so clear and you could see the fish checking out the lure’s. The only down side being that they didn’t seem to want to bite! Only catch was ... read more

It mightn’t be on many maps, but 200ks north of Broome, Cape Leveque is definitely the place to be….. Average day time temperature range is 28-32 degrees with 75% humidity, with night time temps dropping down to a staggering 20 degrees at its coolest night last night. It was cold enough last night for Bruce to put on his jumper and Amanda to go looking for her tracky-daks. God help us when we travel south this Thursday, into sub 20 degree temperatures. As we type this, planes are passing no more than 20 metres over our heads to land at the nearby air strip. Fun watching them land in the wind and much less invasive than the couple shagging all the time at Kununurra Cape Leveque is a bit hard to describe except it is on ... read more
