Day 3- Wednesday, September 4th
Ollie told me he would take me out to teach me to drive his car in the morning. Most of the cars here are manuals and I have only had one short lesson right before I left for this trip and I wanted to learn how to drive. Plus I wanted to practice driving on the left side before getting on to a road. We never made it that far though. We drove to the back of this industrial park so there wouldn’t be any cars around while I was learning. He saw this path that lead off the road and down toward a lake and he decided to follow it. There was some guy in an SUV driving around in the middle of the lake, which was odd. Literally driving around in the middle of the lake. Clearly it wasn't that deep but still, never seen that before.
We decided to leave because the guy in the SUV started heading toward us, then headed back to where he was going to let me drive. Ollie, however, decided he wanted to go back on the path and went even further this time.
Mind you, his car is a 2 wheel drive and is not meant for the stuff we were driving through. We made it a good ways back before we came to a spot that he couldn't get around, so we turned around. On the way back, he forgot about the huge patch of sand we drove avoided earlier and gunned it right through the middle. Needless to say we didn’t make it that far. We ended up getting stuck and spent the next two hours digging his car out of the sand. Carla and Karen eventually came and helped us push it out, just for him to get stuck again right after. We pushed him out again and he was able to make his way back to the road. As ridiculous of a morning as it was, digging for the majority of it and having sand everywhere on my body, I couldn’t help but laugh. I came to Australia to have adventures and come back with lots of stories to tell, and now this is one of them. Would I want that to happen again? No. But I still find it rather humorous.
Once we got his
car out of the sand pit, Karen, Carla and I headed down to Bussleton to see one of our other friends and go to the Bussleton jetty. His house was a bit bigger than the rest, but it was only one story. And his yard was huge. They have a bunch of ducks and chickens running around everywhere, there’s a pool, an in-ground trampoline, and a tennis court. The trampoline was the bounciest trampoline I have ever bounced on. So fun! but it was weird because it was literally in a whole in the ground. So odd. We took our time playing around there for a while before we headed over to the jetty.
The jetty was really fun. It’s quite long but it’s gorgeous. One of the guys we were with was going to jump in, but it was rather cold so he decided against it. I plan on going back at some point though when it starts to get warmer so I can jump off. I love the water. It took a while to walk to the end. We were planning on watching the sunset there so Karen could take pictures, but then the clouds
got in the way and it wasn’t as pretty. The beach was fun though, and so was walking along the jetty. As a society we spend so much money on entertainment, going to concerts or sporting events or going out for the evening. Personally I enjoyed going to the jetty and the beach, just walking and talking with friends, enjoying the view and company. It was a great way to spend the evening.
After our jetty walk, us girls headed back to Carla’s to have dinner and go to bed. We had an eventful day the next morning to rest up for.
