It's official, I'm back in OZ and swinging back into the backpacker lifestyle quite nicely! It's amazing how natural it is to shift back into traveling and meeting new people everyday. I guess this is the lifestyle I'm used to after traveling for almost a year now. So far my week in Australia has been wonderful. It even started out nice. On my plane ride from San Francisco to Sydney, I sat next to another backpacker from Canada and we talked traveling until we were somewhere far over the Pacific. When I got into Sydney I spent the whole day figuring out my next move. Since I have been to Sydney several times already, I really want to hop on a flight to the west coast asap. So sure enough, that afternoon I booked a flight to Broome for the following day. Originally I had planned to head to Perth, but after experiencing the cold weather in Sydney (it's winter down here) I decided to head north where it was warm and then work my way down the coast. So that's how I chose Broome, the largest city on the northern part of the west coast.
After figuring out my
travel plans in Sydney, I spent the day at Bondi Beach where I watched people running down the street in wetsuits carrying their boards. The water was pretty crowded for ok surf, but I understand their need to be in the water! If I would have had more time, I would've been one of those guys running down the street in a rush to get into the water. Around 5:30 the sun set and I made my way back to the city. I'm still constantly surprised that it gets dark so early. It's strange leaving summer where it gets dark at 9:30 and then the next day it's winter and getting dark at 5:30. Kinda throws your internal clock for a loop. At least I didn't have any problems with jetlag though! Back at my hostel, I walk into my room to find my two canadian and three irish roommates all chatting over a beer. When they offer me one, of course I joined in! And then the rest pans out like any normal backpacking experience. Casual beers lead to card games, lead to free keg down in the hostel bar, lead to more drinking in the room before heading
out on the town. It was a great night and I was actually a little sad that I had decided to leave sydney so quickly. In just a few hours I had already met some really cool people, but my ticket was booked so I had to go.
The next afternoon I arrived in Broome and was instantly in awe of this place. Flying in over the red sand desert and then seeing the white sand beach bordering the deep blue sea stretching as far as the eye could see was incredible!!! Even though Broome has a population of 14,000 it feels much smaller than that. The downtown area is only a couple blocks and all the buildings are single story frontier style. All the roads have a red dusting of sand over them and all the scrubby bushland is made of red dirt. It's pretty flat without any mountains nearby and always hot and sunny during the day with the temps dropping drastically once the sun sets. And these are the most amazing part of Broome. Located right on the west coast means amazing sunsets every single day!!! Since I've been here, I've spent every night but one
Red meets blue
On my walk to the dinosaur tracks watching the sun slowly sink over the horizon turning the sky an amazing orange and pink and yellow. Everyone migrates to the beach and watches this amazing spectacle day after day like they've never seen a sunset before. And honestly, I'm drawn there every evening to watch the sun slowly sink beyond the horizon, taking heaps of pictures even though I already have tons. Everytime, it's a perfect ending to the daylight activities and a good beginning to the night activities. Since there's quite a lot of backpackers who are traveling through or working here, there is always something going on at one of the many pubs in town. Oh, the life of a backpacker....spending the day on the beach than hanging out with friends at the pub. I'm having such a great time and it's hard to believe I only left a week ago. Time seems to have slowed way down since I've got here. Hopefully it'll continue to stretch out for my whole seven months!!!

Could it be love?
Anna, Maybe you were made to live in Auzzi for the rest of your life. Open your own hostel? I think its your love. Anyways, I love the picture. I went to the Shoulder Institute today and turns out my arm wasn't completely fixed. I have MRI and X-Ray done and will find out whats going on soon. I will keep you updated. Have fun and please remember us here in FL. Much Love, Kristen
