Today we spent the day touring Melbourne. It is easy to see why it is considered one of the most livable cities in the world. Beautiful parks, water in the form of rivers and the bay, spectacular architecture, and great restaurants and cafe's are everywhere. We started today with a program by an aborigine native to discuss the history of this country, which in many ways parallels the US. Next we toured a jail from the late 1800's which housed many original Australians who simply could not care for themselves, including children as young as 14. We concluded the day with a river ride on the Yamma where we experienced the really splendid architecture. This is really a beautiful city. I am astounded at the livability and the friendly nature of this place.
