A good nights rest and packed up headed out at 9 am started on the Alpine Highway and climbed up through lots of valleys and good farmland. Stopped at Omeo and found another bakery which seem more popular in South Australia instead of Northern Australia suits Don for his pies.... had a coffee and a wander around not much happening and quite a small place. At midday we carried on the road becoming really windy and more scrub than trees, drove into a village called Dinner Plain ... a huge Ski resort, never realised Australia had these and high Alpine areas boy what a surprise to find 10 km up the road the Ski Fields Mt Hotham ... quite an operation and very high .... I almost couldn't drive over the top 1861 metres and down the other side sweating profusely and crawling along at 20 km an hour on this narrow windy road with nothing on either side with shear drop offs as Don said it is a bucket list drive but never again. Another vey windy descent with Don well over it by the time we reached the bottom and with his eyes not the best quite queasy, stopped
at Harrietville at the bottom and decided to stop here the night 4pm, booked into Snowline Hotel ... bet this pub hums in the Winter !!! Don had a rest and then we went for a drink and dinner at the pub, went for a long wander down the road afterwards and it was like steeping back in time ... some REALLY old houses with people living in them.
