Traralgon is a town located in the east of the Latrobe Valley in the Gippsland region of Victoria. The first non-Indigenous visitors to the area of Traralgon included the party of Count Pawel Strzelecki on their journey from the Snowy Mountains in April 1840, after Strzelecki had named Australia's highest peak as Mount Kosciuszko. Charley Tarra, a Burra Burra man from the NSW town of Taralga, was the Indigenous guide for the party, which included Strzelecki, and it is thought that the city was named after Charley’s home town. In order to reach Melbourne, the party had to cross the heavily timbered mountain range, later named the Strzelecki Ranges. Part of the forest was named Tarra Valley, which was later merged into Tarra Bulga National Park. Bulga is the aboriginal name for mountain. It was to ... read more

Turning 50 in 2020, we wanted to have a really special holiday. Looking back, it was probably 18months ago that I started throwing ideas around of places I’d love to visit - Madagascar, Galapagos Islands or Antarctica. My love of photography, animals and nature were big factors when deciding where to travel to but price has to come into it, unfortunately. We ruled out Madagascar and Galapagos Islands because in 2015 we had the most amazing wildlife experience in Borneo and although not the same, decided to give these two a miss for this trip. Antarctica was a dream for both of us, but once we started doing the research, ruled this out too for several reasons which I won’t get into. Luckily, there was another destination which would offer not only spectacular scenery, wildlife and ... read more

Hi All Have started my leave and am in prep mode for the odyssey with Gaynor (aka Fairy Godmother). 3 days out and I have yet to start packing. Gaynor has mostly done hers but she heads off tomorrow for a girls weekend away in Sorrento leaving me to finish the laundry, clean up the kitchen and make the bed. Planning has gone well with only being over budget by about 10% so far. Not bad considering some of the extravagance we will indulge in. My spreadsheet has become fairly expansive. Gaynor believes I get more joy out of the planning phase than I do about the actual trip. I admit I do enjoy it, but it does help avoid nasty time consuming problems that could or should have been resolved at the planning stage. It ... read more

Twas the weekend before travel and all through the house, not even a mouse...... NOT!!!!! There is cleaning, packing, washing, folding, shopping and panicking happening around here as we move rapidly towards our new adventure. Greg is so excited about travelling business class and I am getting very excited about Europe before Christmas, all the lights, decorations etc that I remember from my childhood and of course the Christmas Markets. I have hand made about 50 Christmas cards so I can be ready to send out my cards on the 1st December... where ever I am... but as usual, when it is card sending time... I have lost the address book. Heaven help me. Tonight we carried on a tradition (a bit early I know) of getting the boys to decorate their own Christmas tree, and ... read more

Only 20 days to go before we embark on our next adventure. We're heading to the beautiful Kingdom of Bhutan - the Land of Gross National Happiness - for 10 days before we step in to India and travel through Dharjeeling. Then its on to Delhi, Goa - to meet up with the crazy Corcorans before they move back to the UK, and then Mumbai before we head home. Shane says its the hardest country I will ever travel. I said, if its hard I'm not going. I mean, I've seen Slumdog Millionaire and I know its a really poor country. He wants to slum it a little and I want 5 star so we decided to comprise and we are going 5 star!!!... read more
