Easter Monday and we waved the Sheppards off but only until the end of the week when we may be off to stay with them. We spent some time tidying up and then chilled out with Debbie & Padge (D & P) for the rest of the day.
On Tuesday lunch time a school camp arrived, so we spent the morning getting a few things ready. We had a camp fire with the kids in the evening and Padge got on one with his stories!! My head was now feeling more certain about the possibility of going home for my Dad’s funeral and I had decided not to; as any of you who know me will understand. Although it was a difficult decision I think it is the right one.
We spent the rest of the week helping out on the farm as Reggie had gone away and it meant more jobs for us which we liked; we had better access to the internet which meant I could talk to my family which made me feel better about things and it was good to speak with two of my brothers who were birthday boys this week; Happy Birthday again
Bobby and John (xx)!!
On Thursday afternoon Padge said we had to go to the Almond Farm in Beerai, so we biked there. When we arrived there was a board that said welcome to Mary and Damien and we were greeted by Maria who said Padge had arranged a tour for us! Her husband Trinity took us on a tour of the farm which was really interesting and he showed us where all the nuts are shelled etc and then Maria let us taste some chutneys and honey in the little shop. At the end of the tour they presented us with a hamper of goods all that Padge had arranged; such a lovely thing to do. We met a couple who had been working there who were from Wakefield so we spent the next hour swapping travelling stories; it was great to speak to Yorkshire people. We went back, gave Padge a huge hug and gorged on nuts and honey.
Friday and the Royal Wedding; we were quite oblivious to it but all the Ozzys were raving about it; we went shopping and to book train tickets (we had decided to extend our stay until next Wednesday
now – we didn’t want to leave!) and ended up in a local pub for a few pots. By the time we arrived back at the farm it was time to go to Waaia pub – yee ha!! Mick, Di and Luke joined us for tea (another Parma Chicken with loads of salad and it was delicious). Di presented me and Dim with a keepsake; a little scrap book with lots of photos of us at the farm; we were both blown away it was so so lovely of her bless her heart. We spent the rest of the night sinking more pots and watching the Royal Wedding; it was actually nice to see some good old English tradition; we went back to the farm, had a few more beers, read some of Padge’s poetry and finished watching the wedding.
Saturday and D & P were off to Melbourne for a party so after making a picnic we got a lift with D & P to watch the footy in Waaia; Waaia V Shepparton (we are both well into the Ozzy rules footy now). After watching a bit of netball we went and found Mick and Di; we spent
the rest of the afternoon with them watching the footy. Di invited us to tea; Mick showed us his cattle and horses and we had a few drinks and enjoyed a beautiful tea of chicken and corn soup and homemade sausage rolls; it was delicious, then we watched an Adelaide V St Kilda match and Mick drove us home; it is safe to say we have made 2 more great friends.
The next 2 days I was feeling a bit off colour, we just pottered and helped out around the farm; me preparing meals and Dim weeding; we could get into this life. Tuesday was our last evening on the farm and we celebrated in style. Padge let us fire his shotgun a first for me (check out the video). After a couple of songs with another school camp that had arrived we went back to D & P’s house along with Padge’s nephew Jack and all had a few beers and that night we slept under the stars in a swag; a truly memorable night to finish our true Ozzy experience at Murray River; we have made 2 amazing friends in Deb and Padge and not to mention
our hamper..
Padge arranged all of this bless him! all the others who they introduced us to, we are really going to miss this place.
