Touching down at Tulemarine Airport in Melbourne we headed through the city and south towards the Mornington Peninsula. The sunny skies of Australia marked our second continent and the main part of our trip. In our time here we've enjoyed the long sandy beaches, wine country (it would be rude not to) and checked out the local wildlife. On an unsuccessful trip exploring, we tried to see the dolphins (which were hiding) and despite hearing there were koalas in peoples gardens, there were none in the koala reserve we visited (also hiding). Although we did say hello to a kangaroo in the fields on Philip Island. Melbourne's sky scrapers are surrounded by green parks and cute lanes filled with nice cafes and bars. In Melbourne where free is a practically unheard word, we managed to find ... read more

So, as predicted in my last blog... I didn't keep up with any blogs over my entire time spent in Australia!! 2 years!! 2 Year have flown by and I have no blogs to show for it but a load of great memories and new friends. Why am I even in Oz? Well my parents immigrated to OZ 5 years ago, just before I 1st flew to Korea to work. In order to get a working holiday visa in Australia you need to be under 31 years old and i was rapidly aging! I wanted to spend 2 years in OZ with my parents and travelling around so needed to go ASAP! Getting my WHVisa sorted from inside Korea was amazingly easy!! I just went online, filled in the form, went to a hospital to get ... read more

In between both of us working like crazy still, we managed to have a bit of the fun the last couple months. We tried to do a few trips on our 1 day off a week, and went to Dandenong Ranges, out towards the coast and the start of the Great Ocean Road for some much needed beach time, some yoga and then of course sourcing out the best spots to eat in Melbourne and think we have found quite a few of them (which then leads to more Bikram Yoga!). But the best part of the last couple months was when Brett's parents came over from Vancouver for his sister's 40th birthday. They spent almost a month over here but we had trouble keeping tabs on them! One day they would be in Wollongong, the ... read more

A big part of this portion of my trip through Australia is to see where Natalie grew up and experience the country. The other part is to meet people. This includes Natalie's family and all of Natalie's friends . I got a big introduction on Day 1 with her parents. Day 2, I got thrown under the bus with a "couple's getaway" to the Mornington Peninsula with 3 other couples. I just love the idea of a "couple's getaway" (sarcasm). It was with 3 of Natalie's high school friends and their boyfriends/husbands. It was a bit strange at first, but everyone turned out to be very nice and the weekend provided no meltdowns. We were staying in a brand new beach home, decked out to be somewhat of a party place. We were treated to great ... read more

With a long weekend coming & with the rare occurence of a good weather forecast in Melbourne, it only made sense that my friends and I go for a good bush walk... Being an absolute beach person, I was keen on doing a walk that involved the ocean...preferably one with spots where taking a dip in the ocean or rock pools would be possible. It took some research on the Internet to find a good coastal walk that was blogged/reviewed to detail. While the information that I could find on the Bushrangers Bay walk didn't do justice to the walk itself & to be honest could be more descriptive, it did provide a fair bit of information (So firstly thanks to all you bloggers who share their experiences). Hence why I decided to blog for a ... read more

2 days in I've just come in from the beach, where I have dipped my toes and watched the sun set over Port Phillip bay. I think this may the place I am going to find my inner peace. So the journey was okay, although my flight was delayed from Manchester, and it cut my time to get across Dubai down to 30 mins, which was not the most fun I've ever had!! My ankles and legs were so swollen, but that is almost gone now. I had a half hour stop in KL, which was unbearably hot! Arriving in Melbourne at 1.30 in the morning was incredibly surreal, I couldn't believe I'd arrived! I slept most of Saturday, which with hindsight was a really bad idea, as I couldn't sleep last night!! So been to ... read more

A bit of a later beginning to the day, but who is in a rush? We had chosen t visit a garden Maze advertised in the visitor’s brochures and picked the Ashcombe Lavender Garden Maze. The address input into the Tom-tom navigator and away we go. All is well except we ended up on a steep dirt road going through some bushland. This certainly raised questions in both our minds and thankful we had a decent vehicle, equipped with four wheel drive if required! Yet we were both surprised when we came out on a sealed stretch of road about 500metres from our chosen destination. Relief and thankful we had trusted Tom to get us there, we headed into the attraction. Gee the price was a little steep at $30.00 but never mind it showed up ... read more

As we packed up to head to Phillip Island, The groundsman asked where we were heading, I answered the question, explaining we were heading to Cowes on Phillip Island, (we are both keen to see the penguins). The Guy in the next van told us that Phillip Island was booked out for the motorbike race. What is it about our luck? We struck Sturgess in the USA and now a motorcycle gathering in Australia! How’s our form? So a quick change of plans, we chose to head directly to the Mornington Peninsular and check out the penguins at another time. We are proud of ourselves now, as the travel stress is lower with the van brakes working correctly, and we travel at a comfortable pace with not to many hassles, except when the driver doesn’t take ... read more

Tuesday 13th April After a good sleep we were up and at it this morning looking forward to the next part of our adventure, a little saddened by having to leave the company and hospitality of Richard and Carol. Whilst Rags spent some time readying the van for our journey, Judy swapped photos with Richard recording our time with them. After morning tea, and paying the toll for the freeway on the Net, we made our farewells. Rags had a bit of trouble getting the van down the steep narrow drive but soon we were off. The freeway was just that and in no time we reached Frankstown, the van sitting nicely at 100kph and still getting under 15litres/100kms. Here, we stopped at the Information Centre at the beach and were given all the spots worth ... read more
