We did not want to drive too far today with our dodgy wheel. Bob and Tracy are going up to Mungo, but Steve and I are taking the van into Mildura to wait until tomorrow (today is a Public Holiday)to see if we can get it fixed. We only drove 27kms and found a lovely van park on the banks of the Murray. When we got in, I looked under the van and noticed the problem - the big piece of metal attached to the wheel has torn and is almost snapped. We took as much out of the van as we could to relieve the weight off the wheel and hoped that it would hold together long enough for us to drive it to a repair shop. We cannot do anything today, as everywhere is ... read more

Day 1665/4 & Day 1666/5 These cold and dark mornings really do not make you want to get out of bed early, but for a change I am out before Andy, that said, it was about 8am! I set about making a cup of tea, breakfast and generally getting active for the day, but I also boiled some eggs so that we could make a sandwich at lunchtime. We were not in any hurry and it felt nice to have an easy morning before hitting the road.I spoke briefly to some of the campers from last night, a few had already left but I never heard a single one of them go. I also never heard a thing overnight, bearing in mind our proximity to the main road, I really thought we would hear traffic throughout ... read more

Weintrauben sind doch ... read more

Das ständige geradeaus fahren ... read more

Saturday 12 November Our first day saw us fly into Mildura, get to grips with the houseboat (well, our Skipper Bee did), stock up with food and perhaps just a few bevies. By 2.30 we were on our way with a 3pm booking to get through the lock. A great experience with a drop of 3.2 metres. Then we were on our way to our overnight stop – somewhere on the river the near the Botanic Gardens. Spent a few hours with a few drinks before calling it a night. A not altogether uneventful night from all accounts – I slept through it all!!!!! But Bee & CB needed to check for intruders. Not sure if that was just wishful thinking or perhaps I created shadows when I woke up and turned off my light!!!!!!!! Bee ... read more

Thursday 7th July We decided to do a trip to Orange World, not expecting much, we were pleasantly surprised. The owner was the tour guide - he did a little singing as well as a very good tour and explained all about growning oranges, mandarines and lots of other citrus fruit. This is the peak picking season for citrus fruit so there are lots and lots of over burdened citrus trees all around the Mildura area. We had a taste and the oranges and mandarines were just so tasty and juicy. We should never buy overseas fruit so these farmers stay in business as the fruit is so much nicer when it is freshly picked off the trees.... read more

Monday 4th July The weekend was quite cool and rained on Sunday - pretty crappy - we are not used to this as this is only the second time we have seen rain since we been on the eastern side of Oz. Today we took the Cruiser in for some muffler repairs then we walked throught the main streets of Mildura and checked out all the old Art Deco buildings - the photo is of the T&G Building but there were many others. Checked out the lovely Grand Hotel which was built as a Tea house because the Caffey Bros did not want drink to affect the work of their workers - it was many years before the Tea House received a liquour license and become a Hotel. Then we boarded the paddle steamer 'Melbourne' and ... read more

Friday 1st July 2011 Today was retail therapy day - John had to have the Exhaust system checked as it was making a noise - is booked in on Monday to have it fixed while we do the paddle steamer cruise. Mildura is a large city and we have just found the Centro Shopping centre and the main street that has all the other big shops like Bunnings, Harvey Norman, BCF etc, etc and also Spotlight and had to call in and so some shopping for Lily. She is being a flamingo for her Artware Show this year and needed some pink feathers for her costume and we found them at Spotlight, so Granparents can shop anywhere in Australia for the grandchildren especially those that live in Exmouth with very limited shops. Had fish and chips ... read more
