What a crazy few months it has been. After three years on the road it was finally time to settle down, to have a place of our own. It was going to be a different feel but we were looking forward to starting a proper life together.
So many things have happened over the last few months that it has taken us a while to get to see some of Melbourne and it's surrounds.
Somehow we managed to get a perfect apartment in Richmond only a few days after arriving back from out East Coast trip, but we were subletting and unfortunately caught within a few weeks of moving in and had to find another place. We were lucky enough to get another proper place in Richmond.
Through out this fiasco we were both trying to find jobs. Anna was struggling to get a proper job but eventually got a position at Kathmandu which has worked out well for her.
Myself on the other hand had trouble figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and having some unsuccessful job interviews pushed me in to a difficult situation, I came out the other end by applying for a pre-apprenticeship
in Electotechnology.
After things slowly got back on track we slowly found the time to see some of the sights.
The first event we got to enjoy was the annual Moomba festival along the Yarra River.
Moomba is like a carnival, full of rides, events, stalls and fun.
We had hit gold by attending a one hour free performance by Josh Pyke, an Australian artist with some great acoustic sounds. It was followed by some great wake-boarding competitions which reminded me of when Anna and I got the chance to Wake-board in Northern France.
Through out the following weeks I went and saw Regan play a footy game out in the hills and took the opportunity to take my camera with me while on one of my routine walks in to the city, to pick up Anna from her work.
The funny thing was that it took me 16 years of living in Melbourne to take my first photo of Flinders Street station and other landmarks of Melbourne.
The weather had been pretty good, still warm and sunny for about a month into Autumn, but the last few weeks have lived up to Melbourne's four seasons in one day reputation.
We took a day trip
to Phillip Island just after the Easter weekend which was a great change from the urban jungle.
I had stocked up on post Easter chocolate sales (smart thinking for a chocolate addict) which lasted the following weeks and we also managed to take a trip in to the Dandenong Ranges. The weather didn't favour us as the rain persisted throughout the day but it was still a great day.
We visited the tiny town of Olinda and took a small walk through the bush, fed some hungry crimson Rosella's and sampled some of the Autumn colours dotted among an otherwise green landscape.
We then headed back to watch Regan play another game of AFL in some pretty crappy conditions which didn't lead to an exciting game but gave Anna a glimpse of what to expect at a professional AFL game.
So after three months of being in Melbourne and over two months working in Melbourne, Anna finally got the opportunity to venture beyond the usual route to work and see some other sights of Melbourne.
We took a day trip in to the city, visiting Victoria Market, Melbourne Central, Southbank and St Kilda Beach. It was a great day and it seems strange to
think that it took so long for us to get around to it.
So hopefully over the next coming months we will be able to get some other trips in to us. We are hoping to make it to Wilsons Promentry, as well as looking at doing a trip north to Broken Hill and looping back to Melbourne via Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and the Grampians.
So stay tuned!!.........
