23rd October - I didn't get much sleep last night - we went to a party had a few drinks but we were in bed by 1am, I just couldn't get to sleep! I managed to get 5 hours sleep - I was too busy thinking about what we needed to pack the next morning and worrying about the lack of space we had left in our bags! Anyway, I was up around 8ish, I left Liam to sleep in a little later, we started re-packing and getting ready around 9. Hannah's family turned up around 10 to clear some space for the new tenants. We were rushing around trying to get everything done but we were on schedule and left the house at 11. Walking to the station with our backpacks was tiring especially for Liam as his bag weighs a ton -bless him! Luckily we made it to the station on time to catch the train to Melbourne.
We arrived in Melbourne at around 12.30pm and searched for lockers to put our bags in for the day. At first glance the lockers looked tiny - we were worried we wouldn't beable to fit our huge bags in but they were fine - we paid $12 for the whole day which we though was good! We didn't really have any plans for our day in Melbourne as we didn't want to spend much money and the weather forecast said it would be raining. Anyway, we decided we should shut down my bank account as it had no money in after our 4 months in Geelong - all our savings are in our joint account. We waited for a while - typical banks it doesn't matter what country you are in - you always have to wait! After we got that sorted we headed to Queen Victoria Market to have a wander around. I saw a few rings and bracelets that I liked but I thought I would wait until the Sydney markets as we plan to go to quite a few. But, I did treat myself to a pillow for my neck - one of those soft, squidgy ones - in the hope that I would beable to sleep better using it - I haven't tried it yet so fingers crossed!
We then went to the Waterfront City as we liked it when we went before. This time we managed to find the shopping district - it is outside and is pretty big - we had a little look in some of the shops and went into an arcade for a laugh. We went on a shooting game - it was pretty fun even though I got shot and still thought I was playing the game until I realised there was a sign at the bottom saying 'INSERT CREDITS NOW!' lol. We sat down on a bench at the Waterfront for a while had a chocolate snack then went to Federation Square. There is always something going on there - this time it was a Malaysian Festival.
I had read online that the acmi museum was free - we had been in before but there wasn't much to see - anyway we thought we would have a look inside and there was a permanent exhibition - I think it's pretty new - it's based on moving images and cinema so we had a look round to see what it was all about and now we're so glad we did! It was awesome! There was so much to look at we created our own movie clip with special sound effects, made a flick-book which we'de like to do again when we go back as you can buy them - it would be nice to keep 😊, watched a model motion picture in action - its hard to explain but there was a strobe light and the model turned around to give the effect of all the creatures moving, but the best interactive gizmo you could look at was the matrix movie (here's the the link:
).
You press a button pop into a room with matrix style green code on the walls and do a 3 second action move. You can then view it in slow motion outside on the screen. It was so much fun to see it in motion - our first try which is the link came out the best, we tried a few more times but they weren't so good! We didn't get time to see everything as they were closing but we are going to go back when we're in Melbourne again.
After that it was time for dinner we decided to go all out and order a family dinnerbox lol typical us always eating way too much. It was only $20 and we wouldusually spend $16 so we thought why not! It consisted of 2 cheese burgers, 2 big macs, 2 small fries, 6 chicken nuggets, 2 regular drinks and 2 small drinks - so it was pretty big but we managed to eat it all - no surprise there lol!
We then headed to the train station to get our bags and go to the coach! We showed the driver our pass and he said that because we booked our seats online we weren't put together! So we were thinking oh great we have to sit apart for our 12 hour journey ! Luckily, noone sat next to me so we were able to sit next to eachother 😊
It's now an hour and 20 mins into our journey so still a long way to go! Let's hope we get some sleep! Til' next time when we'll be in Sydney! xx
