Gidday Mates!
Well, made it to Melbourne, finally have a chance to sit back and relax and have a bit of a break. Weather here is a little cold, not as bad as Auckland was when i left though!
Rosi and Woody picked me up from the airport (in a true blue aussie Ford Falcon Station wagon no less!) and i am staying with them and flatmate Paul. Cheers guys!
Convieniently enough a flat mate had just moved out so i have a room for the week 😊
Just bummed around the flat on Wednesday, slept in and enjoyed the fact i didn't have to do anything. Went for a walk through St Kilda where i'm staying and caught the soccer matches replayed late too in an effort to adjust to local time.
Adjusted a bit too well and slept in longer than anticipated the next morning and left Tarek waiting to meet me in the city at 10... which was about when i woke up :D Sorry Tarek, you know lunch was worth it! It was a gorgeous day and we wandered around taking in the sun and the sights. Went out for dinner that night with
Rosi, Woody and her sister Nina, great Italian restaurant, i went for a brisk pre-bed stroll and was accosted in the street by a group of old locals drinking at their local the Dogs Bar. We got to chatting and they bought me a drink, or 5, or 10, and before you know it i was one of the old boys, talking shit, being introduced to all the girls as an ex NZ porn star! hahaha
Later we went to The Vineyard which was still rocking at 2am when i left. Best uncles i never had :D Thanks Big Al and Crazy Tony. But not so much for the headache i had the next day.
Up early for a recovery breakfast with Rosi and Woody, the last chance i'd have to see them as they were flying to NZ early saturday morning. Met up with Tarek later that day for a walk then headed into the city to watch the Footy, South Melbourne vs Essendon. Good game, everyone follows it here and you can get through a whole weekend just sitting in front of the TV watching the games (Ay Paul?) We went back afterwards to watch the Germany
Argentina soccer match.
Saturday started late surprise surprise, weather was average so just kicked around the flat, met Paul's flatmate Liz and chatted about Turkey where she has been! Saturday night and Tarek and I went to Chapell st to Abar for a Breaks gig his friend Sarah's boyfriend was DJing. Awesome venue (except for the bar staff!) very nice tunes and a good crowd, Sarah's friends Steve and Alisha (also kiwis) also met a viry kewl ozzee cheek theya called Fleek. For the kiwis thats "a very cool ozzie chick there called Flick" 😉
Partied til late and caught the Portugal vs English penalty shootout 😊 I was hoping the late nights would help prepare me for the transition to the time zone in Dubai.
The next day was just packing back up and heading to the airport. Cheers to Tareks brother Firaz for the ride!
So it was my second time in Melbourne and i really liked it, plenty of kiwi's living there and everyone is really friendly, lots of food places and good shopping. i could see myself living there if i had to 😊 not sure about the accents though, the one word
that really got me was "here" they say "Hee-YA" like a karate chop (right Flick?) :P
Anyway I've finished writing this from a mega-super-giant mall in Dubai, its 6pm and probably still 40+ degrees outside. We're off to watch the Germany vs Italy soccer match now. More stories from here next time!
