Today was our final ride of the Great Ocean Road trip. It was a very wet afternoon yesterday in Lorne and their was discussion about missing today's ride if the weather was too bad. When we woke up this morning there was patchy cloud cover and not raining so the decision was made to finish our ride. It was a great ride and the weather was fabulous, in fact 3 out of our 4 riders were sun/wind burnt. We can all now confidently say that Big Hill just outside of Lorne is defnitely not a big hill when compared to Lavers Hill. We finished our ride Anglesea and drove to Melbourne. Arriving in Melbourne it was very wet and we spent the afternoon hopping on and off the free tram visiting Queen Victoria Markets, South Bank ... read more

Hello from Melbourne. What a nice city - although it has been a bit chilly today. Had to wear a jacket for the first time. It was still sunny though - bit like a crisp autumn day in the UK. We had a great day today with Darren and Lauren - one very old friend and one new one! they took us around their Home town of Melbourne and we saw much, much more of it than we would have on our own. Had a lovely lunch in Chinatown - Dim Sum, then went to a fabulous cafe for afternoon tea - what amazing cakes!! Luckily, we did plenty of walking so I don't feel too guilty about the cakes.... Did a river cruise and drove down to St Kilda, which is a lovely place. Tomorrow ... read more

First day of spring (fall) in Melbourne was cool and cloudy. It was perfect weather to visit Healesville Wildlife Preserve and check on the critters. Last year, the endangered species here were sent to the Melbourne Zoo for R & R as the bush fires threatened. Everyone was thrilled when three Tassie Devils were born. Guess the parents thought they were on a second honeymoon. We visited the usual suspects, three varieties of kangaroo, the devils, emus, wombats but the platypus was a no show. The best part for me was the wild birds that came to feed at the emus’ feeder. There was a Rainbow Lorikeet and a Gullah (a variety of cockatoo) and a wonderful, colorful parrot. The Sulfur Crested Cockatoo screeched overhead. After two hours strolling the grounds we left for the Rochford ... read more

Pred odhodom v Sydney (12.12.) imava v nacrtu oceansko voznjo, pingvine in apostole. ... read more

....I haven't done a great job writing on this blog and giving news lately but i will try to share a little bit what went on for the past 3 months in Australia, I got so many things to say that i find myself at a loss for words & a bit spaced out when i try to write about these things that i saw, experienced and felt at different moments thru this last journey...... ......to begin with, i have to say Melbourne is an incredible vibrant city, absolutely artistic & alternative, full of beautiful luscious parks, street art, hidden bars & cafes in some of the city's famous laneways, some neighborhoods carry funny chic names such as Windsor, Preston, Carlton, etc...There's an evident difference between Northern & Southern neighborhoods in Melbourne, In the north, there's ... read more

Days 7-9 4-6 Jan Melbourne We’re glad we came back to Melbourne. There’s always a danger that a repeat visit anywhere will disappoint, but we left wishing we could stay longer. We did the mundane things you do in a beautiful, fascinating and civilised city in the sunshine. South Yarra is a very comfortable part of Melbourne (where Jo and Christian set up home in 2004). For coffee-drinking, newspaper-reading retired wrinklies, who like to walk in shorts and short sleeves through the Botanic Gardens to the city and hop on a tram or train back home when the eyes droop or legs begin to seize, it’s a paradise. (Note to self: Risk of overuse of that word.) The city skyline is stunning - it’s not a New York, but with wide open green spaces a-plenty, it’s ... read more

Hello all from sunny Melbourne : ) We travelled to Melborne on the horrible night bus - but thankfully that will be the last! We are staying in an area called South Yarra which is lovely and only 10 mins from the city. On Tuesday we chilled out in the burbs and tried not to look like walking zombies and had a very early night. On Wednesday we had a city exploration day. We Waled through the main central district, over the Yarra river to an area called South Bank (very cool) then we headed up The Eureka Skydeck - the new and highest viewing platform in the Sourthern Hemisphere! We had a few drinks on Federation Square and headed back to S.Yarra for a trip to TGI Fridays!!!!! Yesterday we had a fantastic day. We ... read more

Happy New Year one and all!!! Drove down from Hervey Bay via Noosa (absolutely unable to stop there, it was more crowded than Harrod's sale!!) and Mooloolaba (less crowded, but busier than last time we were there). Had a pleasant lunch and walkaround then headed down to our overnight Brissie lodgings. Nice civilised apartment, made the most of it, for the rest of our Aus leg of the trip we have to economise. The flight down to Melbourne was a dream. We got to the airport just a bit early for a domestic flight and were faffing about in front of the self check-in machine when a sweet girl from Qantas came up to help the old'uns with this magic new technology. The magic machine asked us if we'd like to catch the flight that left ... read more
