Hello Everyone

We are thrilled being at the Open. It is a very festive atmosphere. Yesterday was Thursday, January 22. It was hotter than the day before. With ground passes we got in to watch the Gonzales vs Canas match. I won't say who won. Maybe it will be on TV later. In the third set I got so warm that I couldn't concentrate on the game. So we took the free, air conditioned tram to the center of town and cooled down in a shop and rehydrated with potato chips and juice. We went back at four and it was cooler and watched a doubles match with Safin and Canas vs Feeny and Smeets of Australia. The Australian fans really put on a big show. They were sitting in one section dressed in yellow shirts and cone hats. They managed to set up a miniature court with rackets and a balloon to hit. At one point they held up a sign saying BARACK TO THE FUTURE and another said CHANGE.
Speaking of Obama he is so popular here. The newspaper had a special section devoted to him and there are as many articles in newspapers as there are in the states.
At night it cools off here and we watched James Blake in the evening vs Sebastien de Chaunac. We put jackets on. It was exciting. The fans like to have a good time. Some of the countries especially Latin America have organized fans. The Americans don't seem to but maybe they were watching Serena. Some young Australians were chanting for James and three had spelled out Blake across their three naked chests. Toward the end of the match the Frenchman was complaining about the noise from the stands. So when he next served. People were saying 'shhhh'. And that disturbed him. Someone far from us was asked to leave. I couldn't hear him. People are out to have a good time and try to be entertaining.
We make sandwiches and food to bring in to the stands. A lot of people do. You can buy food there. There is a cursory inspection of the bags when you go in.
