In one day we got from Auckland to Sydney and from there to Melbourne!! For me and Joanna it was not that weird as we had done it a lot of times already! I understand Kikis excitement, it was a dream trip there in Australia and it became reality. It was all good, lovely airports no big hassle, just with jet star not being able to check us in before a certain time because as a traveller u want that part over and done with! I found the hunger games and bought the book to read during the flight! An amazing book I have to say. The flight to Melbourne was in Avalon , somewhere outside from where u can take a bus to the actual Melbourne, small airport with 3 gates, but if they cater ... read more

As I near the end of this part of my traveling adventure, it was time to say: "so long to my best traveling companions"........we have been gone for 3 months on this particular journey and have had a blast..... we have climbed hills, seen many beaches, walked a thousand miles, been on planes, trains, automobiles, scooters, boats, kayaks.....slid through streets, crashed out of stores, tripped a hundred times........they never once let me down..........good shoes are kinda like best friends that way...... I needed to find a great place to say goodbye......the elevator of life.......sometimes up, sometimes down.......sometimes it gets stuck, but it will always move....... you just have to push the right buttons............ read more

I arrived in Canberra on March 26th from Denpasar, Bali........spent a few days getting the body temperature to drop to where I wasn't sweating 24/7.......got rid of the "big hair".......and set out with Lee Anne and Pauline on a "business trip" to Melbourne...... This would be flight #16 for me since January......short hop skip and a jump in comparison. Melbourne is a busy city full of interesting places to eat and drink and shop and watch sports! We are heading to the AFL game Saturday nite.......I don the team colors of Lee Anne's team.....Essendon.....the game was thrilling to the end......the seats where awesome and the crowd wild.......luved it! The game was close right to the end and we happen to be sitting right behind the goal posts where the final goal was missed: North Melbourne v ... read more

It was a wet and grey morning today, but that didn’t put us off continuing with our plans to go to the Food & Wine Festival on the Southbank. We packed up our wet weather gear and Jo used her usual trick of lining her Ugg boots with plastic bags and we caught the tram into town. We bought tickets to enter the Farm Yard tasting area, and then all tastings were free. There was a variety of food and drink on offer so we decided to go with the sensible plan of starting with the food stalls before trying out the wines and beers on offer. We worked our way around each stall trying breads, relishes, pates, chocolates, puddings, olive oils, curry sauces and spices. Then it was time to move on to the wine ... read more

Creeping in, to join a worn out Nat in bed i was startled by movement. Flicking on the light revealed a rather large huntsman spider relaxing on the cool wall. A few days have come to pass and we have been filling out forms and trying to get things moving. However we are in a vicious circle of needing more ID to get more ID. Bored of paperwork i decided to share a coke with Trent. Wondering through the Carlton gardens Nat and I meet a few fluffy coated friends with rabid faces. One who didnt want to be seen, one who did and one who couldn’t help it! (see pictures) So far we have visited all three main markets of Melbourne • Prahran • Queen Victoria • South Melbourne We are however yet to explore ... read more

Hey! Its day 3 for Jo and wow what a trip it has been already! My flight was good, it all went very smoothly apart from a slight 1 hour 20 minute delay at heathrow due to technical problems with the power of the plane which meant me almost missing my flight in Bangkok and having to run literally from one plane to another. The plane was nice, modern and the food and drinks were actually good for airplane food! Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a very dark skinned Saul in his shorts and thongs! :) It was such a nice reunion! ahh. We then got the bus into the city which took about 20 minutes, then a train from CBD- central business district to Mentone. Walking back from the station was so surreal, ... read more

Hi Everyone! Welcome to 2012 and the start of the Australian travel adventure. I have left Leeton, the Fruitshack, and Mick's Bakehouse behind. To start off my trip my friend from England, Emma, and I have travelled down the Hume highway in her little 1987 Plymouth. We stopped in Albury for a few days and saw Hume Lake and the Murray River. Another fellow Fruitshacker, Andy, accompanied us for 3 days in Albury. He intended to travel to Melbourne with us for the New Years festivities, but when we told him he would have to help us pay for the camp site we had booked he decided to part company with us and hitchhike to Sydney instead. He said he would try to join us in a week for the Great Ocean Road part of our ... read more

We know it’s been a while but here is the latest blog since Hervey Bay, Australia! We left Hervey Bay for Brisbane on a very wet and miserable day, our intentions were to find a place in the city but we came across a ‘minor’ obstacle, our beloved Toyato Yaris! Unfortunately, looking at the way we are travelling around Australia we think we have chosen wrongly. We are limited in the cities as most of the campsites are in the suburban areas! Sleeping in the car was frustrating for the pair of us due to the lack of sleep we were getting as the car is one of the smallest on the market! We drove straight through Brisbane and out the other side, only getting a glimpse of some of the sights that the city has ... read more

"What's Melbourne like?" I asked everyone who'd ever been there before my visit. "Oh, it's fantastic. Amazing culture, shopping and cafes. Melbourne's great. You'll love it." That was the general consensus. I visited Melbourne last year for a blogging conference but I didn't see anything apart from a conference room and 150 bloggers. Much as I love bloggers (and I do!) when I went back for another blogging event I was dying to see Melbourne properly and experience it myself. You see I just didn't really get the concept of Melbourne or what everyone got so excited about. As Australia's second largest city there are the inevitable comparisons between Melbourne and Sydney. Of course, ... read more

Left Albury on Wednesday morning heading for Melbourne. John drove down and our first stop was Glenrowan. We looked at the place where Ned Kelly was captured and then we had a bit of lunch then continued down to Melbourne. Melbourne is a nice city reminds me a bit about Gothenburg with Bourke Street , their main street, leading up to the Parliament house. It looks a bit of Avenyn leading to Poseidon. But then of course they have trams so feels a bit like home. On Wednesday afternoon we went for a stroll down to Federation Square and along Yarra River to the Crown which is a casino. In the evening we started off with German beer at John’s favourite place and then Chinese dinner. On Thursday we continued on our theme for this week, ... read more
