Day 37 So today we got up at a reasonable hour on our free day in Melbourne and went to the eureka tower which is 88 storeys high with amazing 360' views of Melbourne really quite something! We saw everything, the shire of remembrance, the cricket ground, tennis ground, Olympic park, Albert Park, the docks, the botanic gardens, St. Paul's cathedral, the strange building with a face on it and the yarra river etc etc! After we had finished gorping at the whole city we wandered down the road to pony fish island - which is basically a tiny island under a bridge of the yarra river that has a bar on it the whole island is the bar and it's probably 15ft wide at the widest and 30ft long! After having a drink we walked ... read more

Hey Everyone, So we planned to walk around Melbourne and see what the fuss is all about!! We had slept on the floor on a sofa bed mattress this was surprisingly comfortable!! I used my new £20 sleeping bag for the first time, which was very nice and not too warm for me). We headed out first to get Vick a cup of the famous Melbourne coffee, everyone had been raving about it to us in Australia so far. We found a nice coffee place just off Flinders Street and managed to get cheap breakfast there as well!! Vick said it tasted good :P We then headed to Federation Square; this was where they had all the free entry things for tourists!! We went into the moving art museum, the art gallery and a motor show. ... read more

Hi People, Second day of the tour started at 6am, with an included continental breakfast at the hostel before we continued south. After a bit more driving we stopped off for lunch at the ancient Otway’s rainforest before taking a disappointing walk around the 2-mile route to see the smallest waterfall ever and a tall tree one of the 2nd tallest types in the world (but this tree had actually fallen down….) still it was a good little walk up hill after lunch. Along the Great Ocean Road we stopped off at the popular sites to get photos including the collapsed but still awesome London bridge; the towering limestone cliffs of Loch Ard Gorge, the 12 apostles, drove through Apollo Bay, stopped at the historical memorial arch and had a beach walk. We also had a ... read more

A cool start to the day, autumn is reaching this part of the world. We walked a short distance to Federation Square to the Ian Potter Gallery to look at the Australian art collection. Then we caught a tram to the Queen Victoria Market and had a good look around. Whilst there we went into a food hall and had a scrumptious bowl of vegetable noodles. We then walked back towards the hotel via Carlton Gardens where one of the features is Captain Cooks parent's cottage that had been moved over from Yorkshire.... read more

A late start and first excursion was on the free city circle tram to get a view of the area. We then called in at the information centre to pick up some tourist literature. By now it is lunchtime. We dropped of our library in the hotel and set off for the botanical gardens. On the way we could see the Rod Laver Tennis arena, home of the Australian Open Tennis, the MCG home of man y defeats for the English cricket team, the Etihad Stadium, football and rugby of all codes and Albert Park home of the Australian F1 all within a mile of the city centre. As you will see from our photos, on our walk Lyn met Linda Gorringe who runs a bridal shop and Dave met a couple of mates on their ... read more

Up at quarter to silly o'clock on a Sunday morning to catch an early flight to Melbourne. Good flight and a good taxi driver to the hotel. We have a good hotel room but not much bigger than the kitchen of the apartment we left in Sydney. Met up with more relations in the afternoon. We had a trip of the city centre and spent time swapping photos and completing family trees. Later on found a nice restaurant and Dave had kangaroo, which was surprisingly delicious.... read more

️ My Travel bLug Destination: #Melbourne - (#BonWasHere on 29June-07June) If I summed up Melbourne ... My personal thoughts are super arty , quirky , cozy and funky Cafés & Bars...Chic boutiques style shopping almost everywhere ... Cafés & boutique shops on narrow & almost hidden like alleyways... The sky are usually grey , almost gloomy & definitely a lot colder than Sydney during winter however all the locals alike do not mind this "London like weather " at all. I was told by my cousin who lives in Melbourne that locals actually LOVE & are BIG on their Winter Fashion . After just spending a week in Melbourne I couldn't help noticing & looking at the people around me from head to toe and up & down to secretly admire their Winter Fashion sense . ... read more

I understand it has been some time since I blogged last and there is good reason - this round the world trip takes some planning, combine this with a busy social life and full (ish) time work, stir in a beautiful but quite demanding cat and it does not leave much time for anything else! Anyway - I am very pleased to announce that all but one town for the African portion of our adventure is booked and partly paid for, the trip will go along the lines of - Land in Jo'burg, head straight to Livingstone for the Vic Falls Head to Kasane and complete a three day camping trip in the bush of Chobe National Park Pick up car in Kasane and drive through/stop at Rundu, Bagani, Etosha, Otjiwaronga, Swakopmund and finally drop the ... read more
