So 3 days ago I took a trip to Lorne with the University as part of their beach welcome programme, there were over 100 of us in total, unfortunately Liam couldn't come with me as he's no longer a student 😞!
We travelled along the Great Ocean Road to get to Lorne, a picturesque road of the Victoria coastline, it really is beautiful especially in the sunshine. Once we arrived we did the usual uni introductions/talks then got shown to our rooms, there were four of us girls sharing an apartment together. The hotel we stayed in was SO much better than we thought, considering this is a trip we didn't pay a penny for, we stayed in luxury apartments with a view of the sea from the balcony!
After the excitement of the room, me Charlotte, Simone and Myrthe took a stroll down to the beach to explore Lorne. Whilst walking we began to spot shells in the rock pools that were so colourful, we spent an hour picking up shells and comparing them, I kept 6 of them to bring home!
We walked up to the shops and restaurants along the waterfront and spotted some wildlife
on the way, some sort of red breasted parrots LOL Duncan can you help me out, I don't know what they are called? But that wasn't the only type of wildlife we saw, shortly after we saw around 15 Cockatoo Parrots!!! It was amazing seeing them up close in the wild, I'm not a nature freak by any means but it was really great to see, they were so tame so I managed to get some decent photos of them, let me know what you think!
The beach at Lorne is beautiful and great for surfing, the place itself is a small coastal town which I can imagine get's very busy in the summer months. However, as it was winter it wasn't as lively and they don't have much there for the younger generation, they only have one screen in the local cinema! Apart from that it's a lovely place to visit for a few days, we spent the perfect amount of time there.
The next day was an early start woke up around 6.45am, early for me!! This was activity day, starting with a yoga class at 9am which was quite good and very relaxing. Then it
was onto the most fun activity of the day, SURFING! We had 2 hours to learn how to surf, first we got into our wetsuits which are extremely attractive, not lol then we were taught how to get up onto the board after a few practice routines we were off into the freezing cold sea! My feet went numb, but once you started to 'try' and surf you couldn't feel the cold. So I started off and I'll admit I was pretty rubbish I couldn't even get my knees up on the board I just kept falling off! After I asked the instructor to help me, I gradually got the hang off it, the key is to straighten your arms in order to push your self up onto the board and eventually try and stand! I managed to get up 5/6 times which wasn't too bad for my first go at surfing but it's so much harder than it looks and it wears you out, I'm still aching 2 days later! It was great fun, and I will definitely try again whilst we are here, hopefully I'll be better than Liam by that time lol!
After the surfing session
we were all pretty tired, we had an hour break to eat lunch and get ready for the rainforest hike. Me and Myrthe were late for the hike, so we caught up with 2 other girls who were also late and started our own hike! The walk was lovely, took a few photos it reminded me of Jurassic Park because of the big Fern leaves, creek and greenery. We bumped into the hike group half way through and followed them the rest of the way!
Later on we had dinner at the B-Bar and went to bed early as we were so exhausted from the whole day!! 9.30am the next day we got onto the coach to travel to the 12 Apostle's and managed to get the best seats at the front on the left side to get the best view of the Great Ocean Road. The coach driver wanted us to get the best from the drive so he slowed down near a small town, I can't remember the name of it but anyway it was for us to try and spot some koala's in the tree's and we did! We saw 4 koala's they were so cute
I wish I could've taken a photo of them but I didn't get a chance as the coach had to keep moving.
The driver also stopped at a rainforest for 20 mins so we could walk through it, was really cool to see but I didn't spot any wildlife unfortunately! 3 hours after we left we arrived at the Apostle's, we counted 8 in total it was good to see and to say I've been there, I also got some good photo's! Just down the road was a similar type of attraction, the Gorge and Loch the beach down there was really nice although it was far from sunbathing weather!
Last night I arrived back in Geelong very tired but it was all worth it I had a great time, met some lovely people and thought the uni put a lot of effort into the organising the trip for us and making us feel welcome! I liked it so much that me and Liam are taking a trip tomorrow to Anglesea which is a town along the Great Ocean Road to see some wild kangaroo's as Liam feel's like he has missed out lol and now we are
both nature freaks!
We'll hopefully have some good photo's of skippy next time we update our blog! Til then bye, hope you are all well xxxx
