Photos were taken last April 7, 2007 This trip was meant to be a group outing but most backed out so I ended up being stuck with the boys. We left Melbourne at 6am, our rendezvous point was St Kilda Marina. The drive took 4 hours to Metung. We had a pitstop along the way, I think it was at Sale. Upon arrival at Metung, we bought our fishing license and decided to have lunch only to realize lunch isn't served until 11. So we just walked around the sleepy fishing town. We ate at one of the cafes along the pier - ordered the usual fish & chips. Having never fished before, we spent 30 minutes just trying to figure out how to hook the line to the fishing pole. Hahaha what a total failure ... read more

We sat in the caravan last night listening to the sea and watching TV whilst writing up the blog! We were very civilised with our wine, cheese and biscuits!! This is no ordinary Oz cheese, this is Castello brie!!! We stole it from the Adams fridge before we left! We were so slow getting out of bed this morning, talk about a lazy start to our 2nd day of adventure! A quick shower and then we were off to do ... read more

Day 21 - Box Hill North to Lakes Entrance. 3 hrs 58 minutes - 319 kms incl diesel stop! First things first, a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our niece Gabrielle - have a lovely day! We both slept really well last night despite us finding a great episode of Only Fools & Horses on fox-tel when we climbed into bed! Thank goodness for TVs with a sleep button! We were up by 8am and into the normal routine of clearing up from the night before! The girls are already playing in the family room and Grant is asleep on the couch - all is good! It’s not long before Anna comes in and tells us off for clearing up but we like to do our bit to help. We finish off loading stuff into the caravan ... read more

Day 59 - Christchurch - Melbourne Not much to tell from today as we said goodbye to New Zealand and hello to Australia! We had the unexpected shock of having to pay departure tax but apart from that the flight went very smoothly and we arrived in Melbourne on time. We had our walking boots even more thoroughly inspected than in New Zealand through customs and we were quizzed as to where we had been walking but we got through OK eventually. We made our way from the airport to our hostel on the Melbourne train system during rush hour, it was really nice to see so many people again and for the first time in a long time we could not walk in a straight line! We did not arrive at our hostel in ... read more

Hi everyone We had a great 4 weeks in NZ catching up with as many family and friends as we could. It was great to spend time with the grandchildren (we did a lot of catch up babysitting!), and attend Robin and Bryan's 80ths and Rick's 60th birhdays. We arrived back in Melbourne to fire smoke like a thick smog. Chris' Aussie credit card wouldn't work when we went to pay the taxi back to the caravan park (lucky we had enough cash), so the next day we went to the local bank and organised a replacement card. With a week to wait for it, we decided to go south east to Lakes Entrance. We came here Wednesday, motorway most of the way for the first few hours. The smoke haze lasted most of the way, ... read more

The Victorian (and South Australian) heatwave was continuing as we left Wilsons Prom. Annelies had developed a skin infection which looked very similar to (but we knew wasn't) Chicken Pox when we were at Wilsons Prom, so we stopped at Foster on the way out to see a doctor. The anti-histamines and creams did not have much affect for the next few days, so she ended up on antibiotics, which seemed to do the trick. On the way out of Foster we stopped at nearby Ameys Track Blueberry Farm and purchased a kilo, then we visited Agnes Falls at the southern end of the Strzelecki Ranges. We continued east and stopped at Sale for lunch. The temperature was gradually climbing as we made our way from Sale to Lakes Entrance, reaching 44°C according to the car, ... read more

This is the last leg in this particular journey. Surprisingly to us, we were not yet anxious to finalise the trip. Still, all good things come to an end! Merimbula Merimbula established itself as another good destination. Staying at the Tween Waters caravan park allows you to walk to town, walk the beach to Merimbula or Pambula and there is a riding track that follows the highway to Pambula. The weather was good for most of the four night stay. We have been here many times so we concentrated on chilling out and doing less in the way of touristy things. We have revived our interest in cards with a nightly 'best of three' at both Crib and Euchre. Outcomes are mixed so no animosity has crept in. The drive to Lakes Entrance was nice and ... read more

Wow! Seven Weeks since our last Blog!! Ooops! Sorry, time flies eh?! So anyway, what have we been up to, apart from dodging the rain and trying to keep warm?! We did, as planned in the last Blog, make it up to the Murray River to a lovely spot called Bourkes Bend (?!) but being right on the river it was freezing, we managed a couple of nights and gave up on the third morning when we found that the condensation on the inside of the windows had frozen! Don't let anyone tell you that the weather in Oz is always nice! Well with a week or so to spare until we were to meet up with Tony and Val, we decided to head for Philip Island. We had been here a few years ago and ... read more

We returned from Melbourne on Friday. On Saturday morning we celebrated Ella's birthday at a resturant at Lakes Entrance. I had oysters :) (Getting to be a habit---they are so good over here--not as slimy as in the states) We played minature golf----no scores kept---grandpa's idea... We then went to the park----really cold. Then home and celebrated all three girls birthdays and Sarn's. Since we won't be here for the actual days. Erica thought it would be fun for us to see them open their gifts. Steve will attach a few photo's of the fun. We leave Monday Oct 1 for a new adventure with just Steve and I on the road (that's right Steve is driving). Will keep you posted. Love to All. PS Logan here is a "Special Picture" for you.
