We were keen to get away from Swan Hill early but we were visited by fellow Coaster owners who wanted to have a yarn (so we ended up leaving about 11 after a morning tea coffee in the Caravan Park cafe). The Coaster owner was bemoaning the fact that he had come back to his bus from a sightseeing trip to find that he had a flat tyre. Unfortunately, some of his bad luck must have rubbed off on us as just out of Swan Hill we noticed a vibration in the Coaster. We continued on for a little while trying to identify what the vibration might be and looking in the rear vision mirrors at the tyres. Eventually, we found a wayside stop so that it would be safe to pull over and make a ... read more

And so, sadly we left Linda in Port Augusta and headed off for Iron Knob once again. We managed to catch up with Judy but the other people that we had met including PJ and Michelle were off visiting people around Oz. Still we spent the afternoon with Judy and her two crazy dogs and then headed back to Port Augusta for dinner and the night. The following morning we set off for Broken Hill, a silver mining town just over the boarder into New South Wales. (Our 5th State!) Broken Hill was the setting for some of the film Pricilla Queen of the Desert and it is strange wandering around the town and recognising places. The other strange thing about the town is the names of the streets, all being named after chemicals, so you ... read more

The reason why I had to see Jackie again today (apart from everyone else at work or school!) was because she had a (fantastic make me spastic like I have never seen it! AARRGGHH!) internet connection-so that I could choose my uni subjects. The server was damn slow and just as we were about to give up, it kicked into 5th gear. Alas, all the good times for the tutes had been taken up! Jackie wants to thrash me even more at Gin and what do you know…guess who is the winner today? She won about 4 games to 0 (the total score from last night until today was something like 29-3) and the fact that Bec was going to come home for lunch meant that Jackie had to go into town to pick her ... read more

I was fidgety all night and I didn’t know whether the rickety old lock would last my stay. Every now and then the air conditioner for next door would stop, then it would continue its endless bombination until the early hours of the morning. That was even though I was pretty sure I was the only one in the hotel tonight, so I could have just slept with the door open! I had plenty of other things to do and see as well. Firstly, I had to ring my (Bank) Sister and thank her for her emergency loan, then there was laundry to be done, supplies to be bought, “Jack’s Back”…that sign outside of the Commercial was good enough for Jackie Dewhurst! I never let her forget how much her farewell on the LUYD tour meant ... read more

Apparently I snored last night. Everyone is carrying on laughing about it at the Ryan’s, and it even woke up Nicole! Crap I thought, I would never snore! That’s it, I’ve gotta look for my own place to stay tonight where I can snore all I want. Just imagine if Robbie was down here!!!! The first place I enquired about accommodation referred me to the place that I would stay at for the rest of the time in Kerang. I’m walking past the Commercial Hotel in the Town Centre (!) and there’s a sign on the footpath, “Jack’s Back”, for some kind of cabaret show. And guess who else is in town? And it wasn’t a Ford Festiva as quoted in the LUYD diaries, but a Toyota Seca-but I didn’t think I could see her today ... read more

Why I got so pissed last night is anyone’s guess. Checking out so early on so little sleep is almost criminal. Going to Flinders instead of Spencer St is damn stupid. A cab ride and short run later and I make it to the Bendigo bound train with 2 minutes to spare. I feel even worser and it takes me until we are way out of Melbourne to catch my breath and grab some sleep. After Bendigo it’s a road coach to Kerang. I wish the bus driver actually stayed on the road because there’s no way you could sleep while the driver is all over the road (and shoulder). The only good thing to come out of this trip is that the air con is working fine in the coach. When I’m off the ... read more
