Hungry birds outside our cabin waiting to be fed. Geo: -37.1414, 142.519
This morning we had a bit of a sleep-in as we have planned to have a relaxing day. Although we were still woken up early by the noisy birds who wanted to be fed. We got up at about 8, layered up and went outside to feed the birds. Like yesterday, there were a variety of birds waiting outside our cabin to be fed. We gave them a little bit of food and then made our breakfast.
Just before 9am we left our cabin and drove the very short distance to the Brambuk Centre. From here we did a loop walk that went along Fyan's Creek. We saw so much wildlife - kangaroos, wallabies, emus and kookaburras. It was a slow walk and we stopped to take so many photos and enjoyed the close distance to the native wildlife.
Luckily for us the kangaroos were used to people and were not bothered by our close presence. We saw a mother emu and her four chicks - they didn't seem as friendly as the kangaroos because they were walking away from us. There were mobs of kangaroos visible in every direction. Some kangaroos were laying down in the sun, others
02 Feeding
Paul is feeding the variety of birds. sitting and the rest were grazing.
This walk took us two hours in the end. It was more of a stroll as we constantly stopped to admire the wildlife. We were also lucky enough to see female kangaroos with joeys hanging out of their pouches.
The walk was a loop and we ended up back at the Brambuk Centre. Here we had a look at the information displays and the souvenir shop. It was now time for lunch. After our lunch we drove to Lake Fyans and spent the three hours here.
Paul enjoyed fishing, although he had no success. When we first arrived at the lake, the sky was grey and cloudy and like yesterday, there were no other people here. I relaxed and read while Paul fished. Later on in the afternoon, the clouds disappeared and we were lucky to have clear, blue skies.
We left the lake at about half past three and spent the next few hours at the Halls Gap Hotel because Paul really wanted to watch a rugby game. Here we had a few drinks and an early dinner.
