We arrived in Renmark, a fantastic town on the Murray River just inside the SA/VIC Border. The caravan park was literally on the river bank and so beautiful the highlight being green green grass. We could have stayed there for months. We followed the Murray along the border into NSW and back to VIC before rolling into Echuca. We found a caravan park to stay in, it was the best of a bad bunch so we stayed long enough to change the floor in the van (it had been badly stained by rubber mats before we left) and also to have a ride on the historic Paddle Steamer “Alexander” Then it was off to Bendigo. Bendigo was another beautiful town soaked in history and as we found out has a few unexpected firsts as its claim ... read more

Being a vet student (hoorah and at last!), work experience is always interesting and fun, but i can honestly say that my 3 weeks in Rochester (near Echuca, see above) were the best i have ever had on placement. As friend at college Jenny says, who is lifelong friends with Merryn, the vet that i stayed with, Rochester Veterinary Clinic has probably spoiled all English placements for me! There is no endless tea and coffee making, moping floors or fetching and carrying. The entire team are the loveliest people and are constantly and actively making sure that i got to go out and see the most interesting cases and got involved as much as possible. I arrived from Syndey on the overnight train. I spent the Saturday after the jillaroo school with Kirke and Liz, meandering ... read more

We arrived in Echuca with the first rain storm in months. We stayed the first night in an old hotel to stay dry, and on checking in took note of the date for the first time in weeks--and it happened to be the day before our 11th wedding anniversary! The next day we found a caravan park with cabins right on the Murray River. Technically, the caravan park was in Moama, NSW, the town across the river from Echuca. We often cycled across the bridge that connects the two towns. On our anniversary, we dined at Oscar W's, the only restaurant overlooking the Murry River. The view definitely outmatched the food, but it was still a very special evening.... read more

As we are both avid Country and Western music fans we found Tamworth fascinating. We visited the BIG GOLDEN GUITAR museum and they had the record/CD shop to die for if you are a C & W fan, just about every artiste you could mention both Australian, English and in my opinion the best - American. The wax works was fun and I suppose it is the only time we will ever get near the singers. Trevor is proudly sporting his "Tamworth - home of Country Music" shirt as he strums on his guitar in the van. On leaving Tamworth we headed for Moama/Echuca, which took us three days. I suppose there is a bit of jew in us all and as we are fully equipped with water, generator and all home comforts we decided to ... read more

Blog10 On Christmas eve we travelled into Melbourne city to meet with Norman, we met at St Kilda Beach , to be more precise we met at a bar overlooking the esplanade, the sun was shining but not exactly beach weather. After a couple of drinks the wind came , and as we have learnt ,this is then followed by rain. We went back to his hotel and met , Martin Steve and Sue ? We all then went for a meal, a lovely evening. Christmas Day we spent with Sue Alex and their family , it was organised chaos , 15 of us sat down to a full Christmas dinner, it was wonderful, and they coldest Christmas day for 150 years. If anything Christmas here is more traditional than back in England. Thank you Sue ... read more

So after making my way back to melbourne. it was time to search for some work. After just two phone calls on monday I was told that there was work going in Echuca, if I could get there that day to start work the next day. So packed my stuff and headed to the bus station for a three hour coach journey to my destination. At half six the following morning i met up with Hester and Ronald who were also Tomato planting. I had visions of lots of digging. but that was not the case. We simply sat on a machine that was attacted to the back of a tractor, put the tomato plants into spinning cups so the machine could plant them. Only difficultly was keeping up with the machine. After working just one ... read more

MORE PHOTOS TO BE ADDED SOON! Sean and I went to Echuca for the weekend. Echuca is a town situated on the Murray River, i.e. on the Victoria/New South Wales border. It's about 200km from Melbourne and the town of Moama lies opposite it on the NSW side of the river. In the 1800s ex-convict Henry Hopwood persuaded the government to establish a river port here and this led to the town's affluence. Paddlesteamers frequented the river carrying all sorts of goods. Today the town is still famous for its paddlesteamers although they only carry tourists. We got to Echuca late Friday night after taking a slight detour through Bendigo, oops! We tried our best to find some bush camping but in the dark our search proved hopeless so we eventually gave up and checked into ... read more
