For Wednesday, pretty strong winds were predicted already. Some pilots didn’t even show up on launch. The “early birds” still got off alright, then the wind started picking up. Launch was closed, then it was decided to stop the task. It was a good decision that everybody was happy with. Pilots in the air reported windspeeds around 50 km/h and very rough air. The wind was so strong that the keel of a glider that was sitting on launch broke, just because of the pressure of the wind on the sail. I hurried to pack up my glider. When I arrived back in Corryong, I was completely covered in dust and needed a swim in the river first. That was quite nice as you can just float down the river. The rest of the day, we just relaxed as all of us were pretty exhausted. Hanging around a day at launch is just as exhausting as a flying day. In the evening, we had a barbecue for all the pilots and their families and drivers, arranged by local people. It was very nice.

Fuer Mittwoch war schon von vornherein starker Wind angesagt. Einige Piloten kamen gar nicht erst zum Startplatz. Die “early birds” kamen noch ganz gut weg, dann wurde der Wind immer staerker, und irgendwann wurde der Start geschlossen. Kurze Zeit spaeter wurde die Tagesaufgabe abgebrochen. Darueber waren alle sehr froh. Einge der Piloten, die in der Luft gewesen waren, berichteten Windstaerken von 50 km/h, rumpelige Bedingungen und sehr anspruchsvolle Landungen. Am Startplatz oben brach das Kielrohr eines Drachens, nur vom Druck des Windes auf das Segel. Wir fuhren den Berg hinunter, komplett mit Staub bedeckt. Ich brauchte erstmal ein Bad im Fluss, um alles abzuwaschen. Der Fluss ist super, weil man sich mit der Stroemung einfach treiben lassen kann, was einen Riesenspass macht. Danach war Relaxen angesagt. Einen Tag am Startplatz herumzuhaengen, noch dazu bei dem Wind, ist genau so anstrengend wie ein Flugtag. Abends gab es ein Barbecue, organisiert von Einwohnern von Corryong.
