After much discussion and looksees around the river, driving with brother Ron, we decided to take up niece Stephanie's suggestion of Little Toms Beach at Cobram. a proverbial stones throw from town. We drove through some dry dusty tracks through a river gum forest along the river until we came to Little Toms Beach. An idyllic classic Murray River setting nestled among towering river gums and dry scrubby bushland, with a sandy beach right at our door step. We found a safe level camp, free from large overhanging river gumtree branches but still catching some afternoon shade. We would be camping here for quite a few days, so we set up our full annexe to give us an extra room for some 5 star river camping. Once our camp was setup, we took a stroll around ... read more

Day 22 (5/11/2015) Got out early & headed to Shepparton. Saw the Ardmona SPC clearance outlet which sells food CHEAP. The rain closed in pretty early making for a rather bleak day; darting from shop to shop in between the rain. Had lunch at the Shepparton RSL. $10 meals including Barramundi or Roast among several others. Headed back via Numurkah where it pelted down with visibility limited to less than 50 metres with windscreen wipers on the fastest setting. Returned to the caravan park at Cobram to find it flooded after they had 32MM of rain. About 2 hours after getting back the heavens opened again, flooding the caravan park with another 21MM & leaving many people unable to get out of their caravans. The knee was extremely painful today as I try to not use ... read more

Day 19 (2/11/2015) Stepped in a covered drain hole 2 days ago (covered by grass) twisting my knee & the pain has become more pronounced. Spent the afternoon at the hospital getting my right knee checked. Need to have an MRI when I get back home to see what the problem is. Doctor thinks the ligaments along the inside of the knee are damaged, but to what extent is unknown. Got given a prescription for Morphine tablets which are rather powerful. They alleviate the pain really fast but accentuate the effect when you drive or drink. Hence I am swapping painkillers depending on if we are staying in or going out. Day 20 (3/11/2015) The caravan park put on a free breakfast for all the patrons. We enjoyed bacon, eggs & sausages which were all tasty ... read more

Day 17 (31/10/2015) Proposterous weather with thunder, lightning & teeming rain, followed by heat & no sign of the storm. This alternates regularly throughout the day. Flies are stickier than chewing gum on your shoe; you need bloody good insect repellent here as well as a hat net or you end up eating flies! Visited Tocumwal just down the road for the local markets on a Saturday morning which was quite pleasant (once the sun came out) & lots of good produce on display. Went out to the Barooga Sports Club which is quite a nice facility. They also send a bus to pick you up & take you home so that you don’t have to drink drive! Day 18 (1/11/2015) Woken up at some ungodly hour by massive thunder & lightning which rocked the caravan. ... read more

Day 15 (29/10/2015) Went for a drive out to the huge Blowering Dam wall, taking the steep drive up to overlook the dam & spillway from the top. Wound our way back down, cruising along the Tumut River & admiring it’s pretty stretches & camping areas set aside for family access. Went for the short drive up to the Violet Farm, only to reach the gates with a closed sign. Unfortunately this was our last day in Tumut. Had we known how nice Tumut was, we would have stayed longer. But that leaves the door open for another visit in future. Day 16 (30/10/2015) Departed Tumut at 7:50AM & arrived Cobram at 12.25PM. The road from Tumut was winding & had several roadworks, but not as hilly as I suspected. Once we reached the main highway, ... read more

Geo: -35.9168, 145.651Up at 0830 had breakfast and at 0930 went for a drive to Yarrawong-Mulwala, in Yarrawonga called in to a great bargain store to get umbrella's which we needed packing up the van in Swan Hill and we are expecting rain this afternoon. The place was packed from ceiling to floor with everything you could possible want, Mick asked if they could fit any more things into the place and the girl said they keep trying. After buying the umbrellas we took a drive to Mulwala which had a huge lake that was pretty impressive. The whole area must get their water from it and the housing was around $100,000,000 to buy, just a bit out of our price range.Coming back to Cobram we called at Fyffe Field Wines for a bit of tasting ... read more

Geo: -35.9168, 145.651Left Swan Hill at 0830 in pouring rain which did not stop until after Kerang drove through Paddy Fields, Dairy Farms to Olive groves and Orchards. Mick took over in Echuca and the further we got to Cobram the warmer it became. Arrived at the RACV Resort at 1215, it was a good trip and we had lunch sitting under the canopy of the van with a lovely breeze, waiting for the washing to finish and then we'll go for a look around Cobram. Using their free WyFi which is very fast compared to ours.Went for a drive around Cobram, visiting the Information centre and getting some great ideas of what we can do tomorrow. We then drove to Thompsons Beach in Cobram which is the largest inland beach in Australia. After our hectic long weekend, it was delightful to resume our quiet ways by the Murray, sharing it with one other caravan and a few canoers. Just out of Cobram is a beach called Twin Knobs and it was our home for a few days. Lilly was much happier and swimming more, enjoying "her" river to herself. I must be honest, for the second time in 28 months of living in the caravan I hit a wall. I was over flies, dirt, bugs and scorching heat. This was soon overcome by a few indulgences to sooth my soul.... read more

Camped in Mt Kosciusko National Park this evening, ready for the climb tomorrow. Very windy road to get here but great location. Arrived at the chair lift at the ski village of Thredbo at opening time to get to the start of the walk asap. Weather was perfect as it was cooler than the last few days and the track was amazing with metal gridding all the way, to prevent the ground cover from being damaged. Scenery was great with many many hikers on the trail enjoying the day. Camping tonight right next to the Murray River so the bubbling sound of the constant flowing water will definitely assure a good sleep. We even soaked our aching muscles in the river and to also reduce our body temperature as once again we are in the 30 ... read more

Christmas this year was at Sean's parents house. There was a bit of a party first on Christmas eve. On Christmas Day we had turkey (and free range chicken for me!) which was roasted on the barbie. Yes you can roast stuff on a bbq (you just need one with a lid!). There was Christmas crackers, pudding and all the usual suspects. The weather - cold & rainy just like home!!! For New Year's Eve we headed over to Vedran's place for a bit of a barbie. We had KANGAROO!!! Yummy! For the countdown we went to North Brighton beach. From here we could see the fireworks in the city. It was a great night even if I didn't go for a swim. Just as we were leaving though I feel on the rocks and cut ... read more
