Day 344 - Box Hill Resort We've got two birthday shout out today, one gets a constant mention through the blog but the other we'll do here and now! Andy Gardiner, Happy Birthday mucker! We hope you have a great day with 'Stella' and we'll be home soon to sink a few more in person. Lots of love mate x x
With bleary eyes we scrambled out of bed not quite believing the time on the clock. It said 7.45am but it felt much earlier. Darryl had volunteered to pick Jordan up this morning and bring him to the house ready for church at 9am. It’s Easter Sunday and Anna has requested that the family join her at New Hope.
Darryl was just about to leave the house when we heard the girls and Anna getting up. There is much excitement - the Easter Bunny came last night. We reckon her sack must have been bigger than Santa’s as there’s so much chocolate hidden around the family room we’re practically tripping over it!
I don’t remember exactly when it dawned on Anna that we should all still be in bed but it turns out the clocks
went back by one hour at 3am this morning to signal the end of Daylight Savings in Victoria. Fiddlesticks, no wonder we’re all yawning! There was no going back to bed now though, the girls were up and there’s chocolate to be consumed!
It’s a double wammie today, for not only is it Easter Sunday but it is also Anna’s 42nd birthday, signalling the start of the ‘Festival of Anna’! Whatever Anna’s heart desires is our wish for today! Happy Birthday beautiful lady, we hope that you enjoy your festival and we’re very glad we’re a part of it!
Church was absolutely packed to the rafters at this morning’s service and because we were slightly ‘late’ we were towards the back in the extra seating area! It’s to be expected on Easter Sunday really and it was great to be there with all the family, a fact noted by the minister himself.
Anna has requested one of her favourite meals for lunch - Japanese Tempura with prawns, scallops, pumpkin, mushrooms, capsicum and flat fish. Grant does a fine job, it’s absolutely delicious and we’re soon begging for mercy as our tummies can’t physically fit any more in.
We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up the kitchen and getting ready for the festival proper to begin. There were saucepans full of veggies all over the kitchen as tonight’s dinner is a self serve roast! Just after 6pm the guest began to arrive bringing with them a delicious trail of deserts and nibbles. We had a great time with Uncle Frank and Aunty Chris who were accompanied by their son Paul and his girlfriend Scarlett. Then there were friends Colleen, Elizabeth, Nicola, Liz and Mel plus Mel’s gorgeous youngsters Georgia and Ethan. It’s always a treat to see Anna’s Mum and Dad, Bill and Helen, close family friend Joan plus Paula, Cory, Luke, James, Peppa and Uncle Jim. They are a very welcoming family and we love being a part of it, albeit a small distant part! Anna’s son Jordan brought along his Swedish friend Therese and as her parents are visiting from Sweden they came too. Talia (Therese’s Mum) celebrated her birthday recently so along with Anna and Darryl she got to blow the candles out on the communal birthday cake. Another tradition which we love, communal birthday cakes! Here also were my Aunty Daph,
cousin Bert and his girlfriend Kym who we absolutely adore. We don’t spend nearly as much time with them as we should so it’s great to catch up on occasions like this.
The roast was a magnificent success and a credit to the hard work of Grant and Darryl who while myself & Anna were enjoying ourselves circulating whilst doing a bit of cleaning up along the way, the boys were cooking, cooking, cooking. They make a very good team and by the time they'd finished everyone was fill to bursting point! After that we managed to circulate pretty well around the group. There was much fun to be had and to top it all off we got a tour of Bill’s new motor. Although he apparently toyed with the idea of a BMW, he’s a Mercedes man at heart and that’s what he ended up with. Wow what a car. The sound system alone is absolutely astounding, it’s better than most I’ve heard in houses. A quick trip up and down the road gives us a teeny weeny introduction into the power behind this vehicle, the acceleration is good, very good!
While Bill was inside bidding everyone
goodbye, Anna was finding new ways to ‘appreciate’ the splendour of the Merc! Well, you’re only 42 once my lovely so you just go for it!! You’ll have to scroll through the pictures to find out exactly what she did!
What a good night, we laughed and laughed … although whilst I sat next to the fire on the patio I started to have hot and cold flushes. Oh no, let’s hope it’s not the same bug that struck Grant down for 12 hours yesterday.
Most people had drifted away by 1am ish, it was the same hard core few that remained listening to funny stories around the fire but then even we wilted and went to bed.
Thank goodness for public holidays, none of us have to go to work tomorrow!!
