The day dawned bright, the first day of our adventure, excitement was high and everyone slept in!! Even me, supposed to be up at 5.30am to get all the garden and animals organised, but that's the way holidays are. The day before was spent trying to work, organise animals and pack Shazza and there was just not enough hours in the day to get it all done. So the morning was spent doing last minute checks on the animals and training Marg on how to use the fire pump to water the garden. That should be interesting to see if Marg can get it going. If anyone sees her out doing rain dancing you will know she was unsuccessful with the pump. We can only pray for some rain to make Marg and Jude's life easier looking after the garden for us. A big thank you to Marg and Jude (Pete's sister) for taking on the job of looking after the property, including pregnant Alpaca's, cat, chickens and cow's. Really appreciate the help so we can get away!!
Anyway back to the travels, we headed off at 1.23pm to be exact, thank you Hayden, and towards Gippsland. Got 20 kms
down the road to Pakenham, and stopped for fuel and for some groceries. Hayden and I rang around Coles getting a few essentials, including the Bourne Trilogy, which apparently you need on every road trip!! Pete and Ben were waiting down the road at the servo and so Hayden and I thought we would just "Borrow" the shopping trolley so we could get the food down to Shazza. So imagine this, we are pushing it full of food at speed down hill and get to the car park entrance and as we went to exit the shopping trolley wheels locked!! Sneaky way to make sure that you cant "borrow" the trolleys. We nearly ended up with all the food and us on the ground! Ended up we just had to carry the bags after we picked ourselves up off the ground from laughing. Right, now an hour later and we are again ready to take off on the adventure!!
On the road Pete driving, me navigating and the Uno championship of 2016 begun between Hayden and Ben. They warmed up with a game of Cheat and that set the scene for three hours of card playing. We had the
music cranked up and off we headed, stopping at Bairnsdale getting fuel and ice and having a great time. Decided to stop for the night at Marlo and found a free campsite right on the banks of the Snowy River just outside Marlo.
So we pull up, set Shazza up so she is level, amazing thing that is all done inside by pushing a button! Ben and Hayden set up their tents overlooking the river and we set up the chairs ready to have a quiet drink to celebrate our first night. Oh no, horror I go to the fridge to get a beer and a glass of wine and fridge is warm. Something is wrong with the gas part of the fridge but we played with it and it seemed to cool things but very quickly the beer was put in the Esky and thank goodness we had ice so it could cool down the wine!! Disaster averted.
Had a wonderful dinner of hamburgers and watched the sun set over the river. Ben tried some fishing but no luck, could have been the fact that he didn't have any bait apart from a witchetty grub he dug
up. Better luck when we get some real bait.
The night was spent playing Scrabble with all of us cheating using Google to look up the words, and Pete won, does that mean he cheated the most??? Probably not, but the night ended with us all happy and tired!! I think there is going to be a Scrabble championship as well.
