26th March ::: APOLLO BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL!!! I met some people on couchsurfing and we stayed in their driveway - apparent the music festival for this tiny town was much like coast guard for grand haven. Everyone who knows someone in the town came to stay and the place filled up and it was a great time! Byron and I volunteered for free tickets and had a ball. The next day we checked wristbands at this surf club that was really really slow so I decided to teach myself how to skateboard. Oh really allie? Not smart. Well I was doing fine until I got a bit confident and then tried to stop and hit a kerb (YES that is how they spell it here. Bah!) and I fell ad injured me elbow. Wouchers!!! the people ... read more

Well, we headed off from Geelong knowing that we were on our own from here on in, with adventurous spirited butterflies zooming around inside. No more family, no more friends - just us ‘til at least Perth. In a while there’ll be no more known places. Just completely fresh. Exciting and daunting at the same time! Anyway, off we went to Torquay, and off along the great ocean road. What an absolutely amazing drive it is, with all it’s twist and turns and ups and downs! The day we did it it was absolutely spectacular, crystal clear water, blue sky and only a slight swell. Every corner we came around we all oohed and ahhed. OOOhhhh isn’t that gorgeous, ahhhhhh how beautiful … just the whole way! We got to Apollo Bay and camped out of ... read more

Well, we are in Melbourne now having spent nearly a week on the road to get here. Once we got to Adelaide we spent a few days here catching up with two friends from Williams and also doing a little sightseeing. Although the weather wasn't great, cooler temperatures and rain, it was actually a nice change from the scorching hot desert heat we had just come from. We spent one whole day at Cleland Wildlife Park which is a wildlife centre in a conservation park in the Adelaide hills, so not too far out of the city. We spent the day feeding wallabies and Kangaroos which was amazing in itself. Not to mention we got to see a wombat, a first for us and they are about four times the size we thought they were going ... read more

Day 268 - Port Fairy to Apollo Bay Today is all about the Great Ocean Road! We left Port Fairy not long before 10am and managed to be just in front of the Adams and a short while in front of Daph & David. The weather isn’t what we wanted for this section of the trip, its overcast with the odd spot of rain and is clearly not the beautiful blue sky with bright sunshine that we had ordered. How rude. Whilst we were in our car singing away to a few Neil Diamond classics, the Adams were enjoying a far more civilised journey listening to the cricket! Some girls have all the luck hey Anna!! There were a lot of stop offs along the way today. The Great Ocean Road is crammed full of amazing ... read more

We awake at 0645 slightly dusty after several bottles of wine the previous evening. The plan for the day relatively simple - head out for the 12 apostles. 1 good breakfast down - recommend our B&B btw albeit a touch expensive perhaps but really really good. We’re on the road at 8.30pm ahead of schedule and on route. Given we’re ahead of time, we decide to do at least 1 site en-route to the apostles, we opt for the Cape Otway. We take the long drive down from the B100 stopping 3 times enroute to admire the Koala bears - Claire was adoring them. We eventually get to the light house then a category 1 situation arises. I turn to Claire and say; “It’s a bit breezy, do you think we should take our jackets? Sh*&, ... read more

Despite riding 145km that day, I loaded the hire car with my bike and its accessories and off i drove another 80km to Apollo Bay, where i had booked a quiet Bed and Breakfast for the night. I spent the entire 80km cursing, wondering why i was so stupid to book a B&B so far away after having endured such torture that day. While I was not tired, my entire body ached and it hurt to sit in the hire car. I found myself stopping at intervals to try and stretch the seizing muscles, and relieve the aching back. I soon stopped cursing when i arrived at the B&B in Apollo Bay to find that the room I booked had a bathroom attached with... yes, a bath. It was perfect for easing the pain (temporarily) and ... read more

We couldn´t help ourselves! We had to do it. We had to do something we couldn´t possibly do back home at Christmas. So yip. We hired ourselves a motor and disappeared off to beautiful Appollo Bay, Victoria for crazy Christmas antics on the beach. Of course before all that, we began Christmas day in Melbourne. A whizz in the kitchen, Jane prepared a special Christmas breakfast for us. We had delicious mouth-watering pancakes with scrummy maple syrup. Mmm. Heaven on a plate. And it was just as breakfast was about ready that I made my grand appearance dressed as Santa Claus. My outfit was complete with suit, hat, belt and beard!! And I even had a little Santa hat for dear Mr P - flashing lights and everything!! By early afternoon we were on the beach. ... read more

Entry by Rich Tuesday 23/12/08 Our last day on the Great Ocean Road took us from Apollo Bay all the way into Melbourne. The road from Apollo Bay winds along the coast and with the sea on our right hand side for many kilometres it felt like one of those roads you pnly get on car adverts. We are so used to sitting in our cars in nose to tail traffic that it has been a real pleasure to drive on empty roads with vast open spaces on either side. We were almost tempted to backtrack slightly on our route from the previous day as we had heard about a walk where you could see wild koalas. It would have meant a pretty big addition to our journey and we had to get the car back ... read more

3rd December 2008 - LANDMARK HEAVEN!!! We set off on our journey along The Great Ocean Road. We only had a short distance to travel today but many stops to make along the way!!! The weather was a mix - 4 seasons in one hour just about covers it and I lost count of the number of times we put coats on and took them off. Oh well...a good workout for the arms if nothing else! You will notice that the theme of photographs has changed from us on a rock to the sea and a rock!! Compelling and rich viewing I am sure!! 1st Stop - Bay of Islands - Lots of rocks that had broken off from the main land and formed their own islands in the sea. Very picturesque! 2nd Stop - The ... read more

3/11/08 = The Great Ocean Road Woke up late today because of the idiot man...I mean person...that banged on our van last night - idiot! Was the only day it really mattered too, because had booked some library time at 10 and was already 9:30. Quickest wash ever in yet another awful toilets and then off to library to catch up on some things like this. After library, had some cereal en route, while Deb drove us towards Great Ocean Road. Is a brilliant road and a really good place to drive down if ever in the area. Has loads to see and ended up stopping the car every 2 minutes. This is what we saw: 1) The Bay of Islands = a really nice cove and arrangement of islands really close to the shore. 2) ... read more
