After our pandemic pause we are getting back into the swing of travelling again now. Sourced provisions for self-catered breakfasts - no longer paying $50 a day for continental breakfasts. Although, we didn’t actually pay for our Eaglehawke Neck breakfasts. An oversight on my part. Yoghurt, muesli, fruit and nutri-grain in the girls room and we’re checking out. Not before the cleaners are knocking on our door. The Tasman Peninsula farms are dotted with small homes and barns. The older barns have caught Deaks eye and he is attempting to snap them as we cruise by at 90km per hour. They are eye catching, isolated on green hills adjacent to the blue green ocean. Before we know it we’ve hit Orford and the suburban housing feels dense after a couple of days in national parks. A ... read more

We came to Hobart at the perfect time... not! Our only full day here and it poured with rain for all of it, and the weather struggled to get over 15 degrees Celsius at its warmest. The warmth the rest of the country seems to be getting makes me jealous. What made it even harder was the comfortable bed we woke up in this morning, and that I was suffering from neck and back pain. Breakfast was in the restaurant this morning, and although pricey, offered a wide selection of cooked food, cold meats and cheeses, as well as your typical cereals, fruit, yoghurt and toast. Considering we're on holiday, we paid for the breakfast, though when we book hotels ourselves, we usually select the breakfast option when booking our room! By 9, we were ready ... read more

I cannot ever remember watching a colourful sunrise while being in the middle of a thunder storm. But that was our experience at Mayfield Bay. The sun rise was over the Freycinet Peninsular directly across Great Oyster Bay from Mayfield Bay. Must say we experienced unusual difficulties with auto focus because of the driving rain between us and the sunrise. However, by fixing the focus on infinity the problem was solved. Mind you, the camera still sounded like a concrete mixer and was tricky to operate. It was not long before we arrived at the little port of Triabunna. Many tourists travel from here by ferry to Maria Island, but for us, we have insufficient time/funds to do everything we see that we like. We were staggered at the number of motorhomes free camping here. Some ... read more

This morning we stopped off at Margate before driving to the historic town of Richmond, 25 kms north-east of Hobart. It was lunch time when we arrived so we made our way to the bakery where we nabbed a lovely table out in the sun. Scallop pies appear to be the specialty in Tassie so I had to give one a go. The curried scallop pie dished up was unique and flavoursome, I intend to sample a few more while we are here. The walk around Richmond is both beautiful and fascinating. We went to see the Richmond Bridge which is Australia's oldest bridge still in use. It was built using convict labour in 1823 and the stone work is magnificent. We also popped by the old gaol which was one of the more significant penitentiaries ... read more

After leaving Merimbula we travelled to Lakes Entrance in southern Victoria which was a 270 km trip. It was a nice sunny day and the country side was lovely as it is mostly National Park country with a few small quaint towns along the way. At Lakes Entrance we met up with some friends of ours whom we met whilst in Cairns as they were parked next to us in the caravan park there. We had a lovely time with Tony and Gwen and they took us for a drive up to the small town of Buchan where there are some caves. Although we didn’t go through the caves we had a picnic lunch in the park near them where there were some fabulous old trees and the area was so picturesque. We had dinner with ... read more

Did i mention that I LOVE TASMANIA!? Ive been neglecting my blog for awhile because i have been out exploring, so here is the scoop on the last few days.. I didnt want to do any organized tours, so I have just been taking the bus around the city and surrounds. One day I spent most of the day walking around the harbor shops and spend alot of time in an antique book store. Then the next day I took a bus to the historic Georgian villiage of Richmond which was built by the convicts that made up the colony in 1838. Pretty much all the buildings in Hobart were build by convicts and they are so beautiful. i went to the Richmond prison and they have stories posted on the wall about the inmmates that ... read more

We woke up to an overcast day with a forecast of rain and storms. We went up to the Information Centre to get our National Parks and Wildlife Pass and went for a drive. Our first stop was Richmond. We had a lovely walk around this quaint little town. We wandered up to the old sandstone church, St Johns, which had beautiful stained glass windows. When we left Richmond we drove down to Opussum. This was quite a long but very scenic drive. It is the last town on a ‘doglegged’ shaped headland that is South of Richmond. The drive is lovely, between the mountains and the river. We stopped and had our picnic lunch overlooking Seven Mile Beach - a beautiful spot. (unfortunately we had to sit in the car as it was raining) We ... read more

Holy goats!! I'm afraid this is just a mini update and hello to all you troopers - mainly because I have min time and B: cause I have a wrist 3x its usual size - aka a monster wrist which makes it rather sore to type!! The Slime and I are now in Tasmania - zero devils spotted to date - only a possum which at first i thought was a cat!! Was pretty funny at the time - in my defense, it was dark! Anyway - Trevor, Silme and I (Trevor being our new van and home - he's a Mitsubishi Starwagon Express!) arrived 2 weeks ago on the ferry in search or fruits that needed picking. We started off in Cygnet - i tackled strawbs and Sime plucked apples. We fled after 2 days ... read more
