Aftering enjoying breakfast in the cottage on Saturday we headed off and arrived at our house sit shortly after. We used the weekend to settle in and catch up on washing and it was nice to have our own space again. Rachel has been enjoying the use of a very well set up kitchen and has baked and cooked up a storm. Taffy the welsh terrier has been a great companion and he is particularly placid; he enjoys nothing more than following you around or sitting on your lap. On Monday we caught the bus into Hobart and after walking up towards North Hobart we realised that home was easily within walking distance. Along the way we found some great book and music stores and enjoyed the walk back which took just over a half hour; ... read more

Sat 10th Nov Each Saturday every man and his dog in Hobart strolls around Salamanca Market - as our hotel was only 200yds from the market we opted for conformity. So when Pat arrived we all sauntered over there. There was a lovely atmosphere with buskers every 100yds. JC soon tired of this shopping experience and wandered off to cast an eye over some classic cars parked nearby and to award marks to the many buskers. In the afternoon Kate and Pat visited an open garden - JC decided to give his lingering cold bug a power nap remedy. Late afternoon we headed off for our 2nd aussie family BBQ - this one included kangaroo meat which Kate and I approached with cautious interest. Allegedly very healthy, we both found the meat very gamey - our ... read more

We left Melbourne and flew to Hobart, Tasmania’s capitol city, in southeast Tasmania, landing there around noon. Tiny airport! We rented the car and drove to Hobart where we were staying for the night. On the way in from the airport I was struck by how this area of the world reminded me of Nova Scotia. The greenery, the rolling hills, and the clarity in the atmosphere reminded me of time I've spent north of Halifax, NS, near the Atlantic. In the CBD (Central Business District), all the streets are one way, so if you miss a street you have to go around a few blocks before you can turn to make up for it. In this fashion, we saw a lot of downtown Hobart! We checked in to our hotel apartment called The Old Wool ... read more

We said cheerio to Sydney with a leasurily breakfast in delightful Rushcutters Bay Park. We arrived in Hobart @ 4.30pm, where the weather was noticeably chillier. Our evening meal was taken at a curious establishment - a combined chippy/fishmonger/ice cream - where we both had fish (blue grenadier - like cod) & chips. It transpired that our hotel room was situated over the dining room and bar and so a tad noisey - so we went with the flow and pottered down to the bar. Thursday started sunnily and with Charles and Camilla due in town shortly we made a quick exit, courtesy of Kate's friend Pat and Pat's aunt June . A quick coffee at her aunt's house (which had spectacular views over the River Derwent) and we were on the road to the Tahune ... read more

Hola everyone, My body has been back in Hobart since the 15th and progressively other bits of me are landing too! It's not really my intention to try and sum up such an incredible trip as the one I've just had. Enough to say that on all levels, spiritual, emotions, mental and physical it provided a much needed change and expansion to my view of the world. Spain is a wonderful country and very dear to my heart. There would be much that Australia could learn from Spain especially in terms of generosity, courteousness and respect for elders. I can really recommend the Camino as a way to reconnect with the earth. Walking, eating, washing, conversation for 35-40 days is a blessed release from much of the baggage we carry with us, or I do anyway. ... read more
