Edit Blog Post
As I'm sure we've said elsewhere on this blog, we had an objective not to repeat visit sights we've seen before. It therefore makes no logical sense therefore to drive from the west coast of Tassie to Wineglass Bay on the east.....except that the 2003 Wineglass experience was a perfect view of some very dense fog! The current pictures demonstrate second time lucky, although a couple of days later bush fires closed a lot of the roads in the vicinity which would have made it very difficult to get there.
The drive across the centre made it very difficult to believe we were in wet Tasmania - it was so dry! As we already have the Port Arthur collection in our portfolio, we visited the former convict coalmines at Saltwater, elsewhere on the Tasman Peninsula. It was like a mini Port Arthur, except that it was free and during the two hours we were around, there wasn't a single other soul about. We headed across to Bruny Island after the trip to the east coast, which was so quiet except for the white wallabies on the caravan park where we stayed. Cape Bruny was a lot like the Giants Causeway
- and as we discovered at Saltwater without the people.
After a couple of days in cosmopolitan Hobart, we've been back down south at the relations in Huon Valley. Whilst in Hobart, we had a run through the tourist activities - Salamanca Market, Victoria Dock and the drive to the top of Mount Wellington. The week on the farm ruled out another career option for John as he proved to have very limited aptitude for sheep related duties. There were some compensations by way of an early Christmas lunch and the first Yorkshire puddings in a very long time!
