So, during this "shelter in place" or quarantine period, many friends have asked me this question. My short answer is: I would go anywhere it is safe, and happy. Narrowing it down, I would say New Zealand, Thailand, and Cape Town. Why? If things were safe everywhere, where would I go? How about the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia, Tasmania, and Yerevan, Armenia. But reality speaks loud and clear! New Zealand is clean, not heavily populated, and loves the outdoors. It feels safe there, yet far enough off the beaten path to avoid pandemic issues. Thailand, simply has the number one rated hospital in the world. Add to that, great food, nice people, world class shopping, and a very interesting cultural explosion. Cape Town, home to Barry the V, means I would be treated like a ... read more

Hola everyone, My body has been back in Hobart since the 15th and progressively other bits of me are landing too! It's not really my intention to try and sum up such an incredible trip as the one I've just had. Enough to say that on all levels, spiritual, emotions, mental and physical it provided a much needed change and expansion to my view of the world. Spain is a wonderful country and very dear to my heart. There would be much that Australia could learn from Spain especially in terms of generosity, courteousness and respect for elders. I can really recommend the Camino as a way to reconnect with the earth. Walking, eating, washing, conversation for 35-40 days is a blessed release from much of the baggage we carry with us, or I do anyway. ... read more

Buenos noches! Well not quite yet but it's getting closer every day! A week or so ago I received my Pelergrino Credencial (Pilgrim Credential) from the Australian Friends of the Camino and I've mostly stopped going to outdoor shops so the time must be close. Actually I seem to be pilgrim 103 from Australia since the AFOTC started issuing credencials here. With Tassie weather I haven't had much time on the road getting fit but everything is worn in anyway now, sleeping bag and all. My boots are awesome and I even took them to the snow last week where unbelievably they kept my feet "well dry"! Scarpa really are the best I think and mine are a nice light goretex design which should suit the warm weather. I do want to have a go at ... read more

Made a gesture to the people I'm working with today at Archdiocese of Hobart. I've invited them to send a written prayer that I will bring to the Cathedral at Santiago. I have a lot of respect for the workers in Centacare, STAY, SITS and HSS and of course ICT they are doing a fantastic job. Of course the church behind it all is in crisis but then so is Carlton Football Club! Just another sign of the changing times we live in. Procured a used camera today which is great because it's shock proof and water resistant to 3m so I can take it swimming. The shock will be exposing my winterised body to the open air!!! Departing Hobart on the 22nd of August. Cheers, Scott... read more

Finally, we are off! After a few hiccups early (spilt beer in vehicle prior to leaving the driveway) & some hijinx along the way (broke both mobile phone cradles), we finally got to Devonport to jump on the boat. Well, to be honest, we finally arrived two hours early to have a few beers with Dave Whelan at The Edgewater Hotel, a pizza while waiting in line to get on the boat & a six pack of Bundy cans to wash it down. Can't wait for the next exciting installment/epic fail.... read more
