I am living in Adelaide, south Australia around 6 months. Now it's become my second hometown. Yes, I'm happy to be here & it's always a pleasure being a stranger in a place where you have never been before. But things may not be enjoyable if you go somewhere to stay for quite a long time instead of traveling, that is happening now with me as a resident here. Most importantly, this is first-time I'm living thousands of miles away from home, without family & friends, sometimes which is not that easy to deal with. However, my initial few months went through adjusting with new people, culture & climate but after a certain time things are gonna be same. I was feeling that I should go somewhere. A break is necessary to get rid of this sort of monotonous feeling. Finally decided to go to this Island and that trip worked as a tonic for me!
But it wasn’t that easy for me to go there all of a sudden. Had to think about my budget. And i knew, this trip would be a bit expensive for a single person. Moreover, 100 dollar was also crucial for me in that
moment as a new settler. Then what? Am I not going there? Of course, because i do believe that, if there is a will there is always a way. By that time, I have managed a family to go with me, though later on I have realized again, how important choosing a right partner or group for travelling! They were 3 including their one-year-old baby boy. Truth is that i felt, a family with a kid cannot be a good company always, especially for any long trip & especially with any bachelor. I have counted that, I had to waste 3 - 4 hours per day during this 5 days trip. we never be able to manage our time and it supposed to be. Its always good to be with your own instead of choosing wrong person, that's my theory regarding travelling. Actually, I didn’t have any choice this time but every bad has some good sides too. I didn’t have to think spent much time to think about breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was totally their headache & they managed everything accordingly as one family does with love and care.
Apart from those experiences it was a pleasant
trip as a whole. I loved KI, which is the third-largest Island and one of the remarkable tourist place in South Australia. It's about 200km from Adelaide. Once occupied by Australian Aborigines, the native population disappeared after the land became an island following rising sea levels several thousand years ago. Finally, become the colony of South Australia from 1836. The island is 150 km (93 mi) long and between 90 km (56 mi) and 57 km (35 mi) wide, its area covering 4,405 km
2 Kangaroo Island is reliant on ferry services for the majority of its transport to and from the mainland. Ferry services are currently provided by Kangaroo Island SeaLink and the Spirit of Kangaroo Island.
Penneshaw is the landing point of KI & one thing you need to keep in mind that ferry is not available whenever you want. That’s why ferry booking is essential before your journey and same thing applicable for accommodation as well. Regarding accommodation it's better to choose any places in the middle of KI or Kingscote area, that would be convenient for everyday traveling. Flinders chase national park area can be a good place to stay. Most of the tourist attractions are
over there. Saying from my experience, because I had to drive extra 100km every day as we stayed Panneshaw, the eastern area of KI.
There are hundreds of bays and beaches in this island and you can explore many of them if you have time. Some places are very popular like Flinders chase national park, American river, Seal bay conservation park, Emu bay, Kelly hill cave, Little Sahara, the Hanson bay etc. Every places has its specialty. For example, on third day, we were looking for a place to have our lunch and went to Hanson bay that wasn't our list but i was amazed to see that. It was really lovely, specially the color of the bay. I think there are many more places those are not familiar but can be exciting that couldn't explore due to lack of time. The whole island is so quiet and you will feel tranquil pleasure. It’s popular not only for scenic beauty, also for divers wildlife reserves including, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and many bird species.
We had only 4 days to discover KI & that's why we divided the whole area into 4 different parts and tried to cover particular
areas each day though it wasn't sufficient. Basically, its depends on planning, 2 or 3 days trip can be good enough for selective places but if someone would like to cover most of the things and like to get the real flavor then it require at least 7 days. Anyway, have a plan to go there one more time before I leave South Australia. It was a memorable trip indeed. Oh, forgot to mention that I have celebrated my this birthday over there with beauty of nature.
Now enjoy the views of KI through my pictures.
