Tonight we are camped just outside of Robe in SA. I can't say what its like yet, as we won't go there till tomorrow, I'll keep you posted. Well where was I up to, I think my last blog was from Halls Gap which was really beautiful. We went on a few walks to see some waterfalls, which was great as they haven't run in awhile, but most of western Victoria seems to have been getting regular rain lately, just not enough to fill dams yet. We went to Boroka look out and to the car park up top of Mount William but as seen in the picture the view was only fog and low clouds, so we didn't get to see the spectacular views promised in the brochure! Oh well just means we will have ... read more

We had our first taste of what life at Montefiore Homes might be like in Robe. Grey nomads surrounded us in a very popular caravan park with gorgeous views of the sea (and other caravans). Robe is the perfect place to mount your bikes and explore the old world streets and other landmarks such as the obelisk, memorials and ice cream shops. Happy hour was at 4.30 back at the caravan park and by 8pm all were inside except our boys who partied till late. It was shower time for me and Sam decided that it was time for his daily ablution so off we went to the Ladies (“Just call me Kylie” for all of you Alison Lester fans). A few cubicles were taken but there was one available for me and plenty for Sam. ... read more

Entry by Jules Sunday 21/12/08 We left Robe bright and early on Sunday morning as we knew we had plenty of sights to see that day, en route to the start of the Great Ocean Road. One sight I have been hoping on encountering all the trip is a Wombat and we did manage to see one beside the road out of Robe. No, it wasn't road kill, but it wasn't alive either; just a road sign unfortunately. As wombats are nocturnal it was unlikely that I would get to see one in the wild. We made a brief stop at Beachport, a lovely seaside town with an extremely long pier. We strolled along to the end and back again before chatting to a local fishermen about his catch so far that day; he was after ... read more

29th November 2008 - ROBE FESTIVAL We arrived at Robe at around 10.30am. Some of the roads were closed off for the fair but we managed to park down a side street near the entrance. That would be our spot for the night!!! We expeceted to have to pay a fiver or so to get in but when we saw the entrance fee of $88 we almost fell through the floor! So much for a cheap week!!! As we were there we decided to pay it anyway and promised ourselves we would get the most out of it. It was on from 11am until Midnight and so we had a whole days worth of fun to have and there were live bands playing all day (some of which are really famous in Oz apparently) so really ... read more

28/11/08 = Chainsaw Massacre Camp Woke up early to sound of rain :( Stressing a little about another council man, but was only 6 and last guy came at 7:15, so guessing they start at 7. Tried to snooze a little longer, but then made myself get up before 7 just in case. So hard to get out of bed because so cold. No toilets near us here, so got changed and drove straight off to petrol station to get washed. Must have looked (and probably smelled awful) when tipped up at petrol station. Scuttled straight into toilets for victorian wash. Hair awful because now third morning - definately needed washing. Decided we were going to drive straight to next town, book straight into a campsite and get straight in shower - that's a lot of ... read more

This time last week I was diving off the coast of Western Australia, I'm now thousands of miles away in South Australia and heading to Melbourne soon. After the diving I had to spend a day relaxing, as you're not allowed to fly for 24 hours after doing multiple dives. I didn't think there was much to do around Exmouth, but I was proved wrong. I hired a car, a little Hyundai Getz, terrible car, and drove around the headland and into the national park. There were some tremendous beaches and at the end of the road (only passable in a 4WD) was Yardie Creek, what looks like a river flowing into the sea, but is actually more of a lake as the river upstream has dried up. It was quite spectacular. A short walk away ... read more

G'day mate, After all the tasting in the Barossa valley, we didn't get on the road until after lunchtime. We drove for what seemed like weeks on this road, to get to the town of Robe, which was meant to be quite quaint and old fashioned. The roads are long with just dry, almost desert land either side of you, they just go on and on. There's just nothing. Ocassionaly you would see a kangaroo sign (or a dead one), or koala or possom sign even, but thats about ti they just have so much space. After 6 hours we arrived in Robe. It was pretty with our campsite write next to a lake. It was late so we just cooked up some pasta on our stove. we are getting quite used to our camper now, ... read more

We traveled the length of the Coorong and, after passing the Giant Lobster in Kingston, arrived in the sleepy seaside holiday town of Robe. At the caravan park, we discovered an amazing novelty--a "jumping pillow". It was a gigantic inflated platform for jumping, flipping, and every form of bouncing imaginable! On our first day, we bought fresh lobster and Greg worked his magic. We feasted on linguine with Lobster and a beautiful beurre blanc sauce. Robe had no restaurant that could match Greggy's cooking, but there was a charming old cinema where we enjoyed "The Golden Compass."... read more

After dragging the boys through all the touristy shops in Hahndorf we ate lunch at the German Arms Hotel. We were brought a feast of Bratwurst, Kransky,Weisswurst sausages, saurkraut and Rhine potatoes, washed down with stein of german beer. A ridiculous amount of food and we were stuffed. I went for an hours run that night to work it off. The next two nights were spent at Little Dip Conservation Park. Where the beaches were very rocky but they were a very aqua blue colour. Still we caught no fish not that it was a surprise. About 500m walk from where we camped were large limestone cliffs that the ocean crashed into. We also went into the closest town called Robe it was very much like Bussleton, the beaches were the same to. Then After packing up ... read more

Yesterday saw the start of our long drive back to Melbourne. We picked up the car at 10am and started the first leg of our journey; a 400km drive to Robe. First stop was the German village of Hahndorf for breakfast. This was one of the first German settlements in Australia and is a very pretty little place. They also do a nice bacon and egg toastie! The roads between Adelaide and Robe are long, straight and pretty quick. Finding a stop for lunch proved a little more challenging than breakfast. The ‘towns’ were spaced about half an hour apart and I can’t say that we actually noticed any of them. They generally consisted of a couple of houses and a layby. We ended up stopping at a roadhouse in Salt Creek complete with local hillbillies! ... read more
