Nullarbor journey
Bago Beau and Ozzie navigate through the dismal wet day These past two days have been primarily travelling days. Rob has driven just under 1200 k's. So not a lot to report. We had to leave our beautiful Lucky Bay yesterday morning without getting a chance to fish because it rained pretty heavily. We will go back one day, thats for sure. Its a place that just resonates in your soul.
The drive has been interesting. Though the Nullarbor is somewhat tedious its an ever changing landscape. We had a fair bit of rain yesterday but the road was dead straight though so wasn't so bad. We passed heaps of inland salt lakes and salmon gums (called that because of the colour of their trunks).
Norseman is the first main town on the Eyre Highway as you head east. It was 'interesting' but not a lot going on. After that, its pretty much just roadhouses till you get way over the other side in South Australia. We organised some lunch at Norseman and headed off soon after.
We were doing pretty well until we came across a road block. I hopped out to ask the traffic bloke what was up and a truck had caught fire that morning

Noresman ! Its all happening here! and they had to get a crane in to try and remove the load from the truck. He said we would be there for about an hour! Thats when you're glad you are carting around your house and your toilet! It was raining and in the middle of nowhere! Eventually it got sorted and off we went.
We drove right till sunset. There's not much warning, the sun just drops and it was pretty dark just after 4.30. And cold! We stopped at the Baxter road stop. It has drop toilets and not much else, but we stayed tucked into the Bago. When we have no power we have no heating so the hot water bottles came in handy!
Off again early this morning heading for the border. Oh we started the 90 mile straight yesterday too, and finished it today. Australias longest straight road apparently!
At our first road house today we bought 2 coffees, a pie and dim sim (okay yes we were pigging out!) $24! Thats the most expensive road house we've seen yet. Their deisel was $2.10! Lucky we didnt need to top up! It also had one of the holes for the

One of the many inland sea lakes. And you thought the outback was dry! Nullabor golf course. Apparently you play a hole at each road house along the way. Can't imagine it today, it was ridiculously windy and freezing!! But toasty in the Bago so didnt matter once we were on our way.
We stopped at Eucla just before the border to cook up as many of our veges that we could. That quarantine thing again! As it turned out they dont check your fruit and veg till you get to Ceduna but we didnt know that! So still got time to eat a few more apples etc!
There is a guy walking from Perth to Brisbane, Gary from 'Hearts across Australia'. Kirby has been following his journey, he is raising money for the Heart foundation. We knew we would see him across the Nullabor so I contacted him on Facebook to see if we could bring some supplies. He thought that'd be great so we grabbed his shopping list in Esperance. And today we knew we would pass him just over the border. He has walked over 1600 k's so far! He has a little support team in a Bago. A massive effort! He usually walks up to 50 k's per

They are actually quite pretty and would be great on a hot day! day, thats huge!
We weren't sure where we were going to find him for sure and there was no phone signal. Just as we went past one of the turn offs to the Great Australian Bite, we thought we saw a Bago that may have been theirs, it had something written on the side. Rob pulled up when we could and did a Uturn. Lucky we did becuase there was Gary and his team chatting to some people. He had finished his walk for the day and the team were taking him back to their overnight stop. So we were able to hand over the much needed weetbix and butter and a few other bits and pieces. Theres not a lot of shopping available on the Nullarbor!
He was a lovely guy and Rob chatted to him about some tips to keep his feet in good order. (Lectric soda got a mention!) We donated the food so he had Rob sign a little heart that he will eventually attach to a tree in Brisbane when the walk is all done (late September or so). This was a great part of the trip, meeting this team! If you would

Ha ha Robs been caught with dunny roll in hand! like to contribute, check him out. If you google Hearts Across Australia hopefully you'll find him. He has had a few sponsors for shoes and socks, but not a lot else so its not only a huge commitment physically, but financially as well! So help out if you can, the boys would really appreciate any support!
Not too long after, we arrived at the Nullarbor road house and decided to stop for the night. We lost and hour and a half today as we are now on South Australian time. We are making big drive legs now until we get nearer to Adelaide. We are hoping to catch up with some family in Port Pirie, Horsham and then Warnambool as our trip draws closer to the end.
Good thing about stopping here tonight is that we have power and therefore, a heater!!
Stay warm folks!
