Here is just a snippet of Part 1 of our wonderful wedding. We originally planned to get married in Thailand but after my mother in law was diagnosed with cancer in September we decided to bring forward the official ceremony so she could be there.
In 6 weeks, we planned and pulled off a fantastic and simple (and cheap) wedding. My parents were able to fly down from Queensland and my son made it from Adelaide so the day could not have been any more perfect.
The day started out with checking into Colhurst House (a beautiful bed and breakfast) where my new husband and I would spend the night. I spent time there with my parents and Todd’s 9 year old daughter who was my bridesmaid. Todd’s Mum Jenny came during the morning to also get her hair and makeup done. My wonderful hairdresser Jessica Jones came off maternity leave to do our hair and the very talented Katie Fox did our makeup. She did an amazing job.
A work friend of Todd’s, Kayleen did the photos for the day and she did such an amazing job. We couldn’t thank her enough. Our friends Dee and Simon
O’Leary also pitched in helping us set up on the morning as well as being our complete rocks in helping to arrange it all.
I ordered a dress online (and wow was it amazing), ordered Maya a dress online (double wow), Todd got his suit cheap through a friend of my sons and Metro Bakery did an amazing job for our wedding cake for under $120!
Our theme was “Picnic in the Park” and we asked people to bring a 'platter to share and a rug or a chair'. My parents kindly supplied the alcohol. I managed to get hold of a small local 2 piece band to do the music for us for the first hour or so then we switched to the IPod. Only disaster was I forgot to convert the music and most of it didn’t play but we did get about 8 songs on loop!
Chris, a dear friend borrowed a very expensive car from his work as our wedding car and we hired some bits and pieces from SE Weddings and Marquees (who did a wonderful job setting up and packing up later that day).
I walked down the aisle to
"Marry me" by Train and we had "I wont give up" by Jason Mraz when we were pronounced man and wife. We had our mothers sign our wedding certificate which was extremely special for us. Our friends Dani and Simon kindly did the readings and we wrote our own vows ahead of time.
We can’t thank everyone who helped make our day so special enough. It was a perfect day for October in Mount Gambier, bright, sunny and NO wind. Anyone who knows Mount Gambier knows how truly blessed we were to have NO wind at the Valley Lake!
We got married overlooking the Valley Lake and stayed there the whole afternoon. Todd and I then got the kids back to our house where Trent and Vic babysat and we spent the night at Colhurst House. It was such a beautiful day and truly I would not have changed a single thing. We even managed to do drive thru KFC in a taxi on the way back to Colhurst House... now thats a classy end to our day! 😊

Lovely wedding despite the sad news. I think you pulled it together fantastically. Congrats!
