From the comfort of my local cafe, I had stumbled across a camel trekking adventure in the Flinders Ranges while reading the Sunday travel section. My interest was immediately piqued, I rounded up some other intrepid adventurers, and before you knew it, the trip was booked. Months then passed.....then, finally it was April and I was Adelaide-bound, and quite apprehensive about the prospect of spen... Read Full Entry

Luxury
A long-drop toilet? Oh my you've changed. :) ha. Sounds perfect and better than beating the bushes. What an adventure. I don't think I'd sign up for 3 days on a camel. Glad you had fun.

Luxury long drops
I know, who would've thought it! It was more fun on a camel than I would've thought!

Wonderful trip
Nice blog. How was the Larapinta trail? I'm just back from a lovely night in Hawkes Bay with Yvonne. We went up for a lunch at Woodford for Dame Kate Harcourt. Nice to go back to school, can't remember when I was last there. We also had dinner at Elephant Hill, took in the Famer's Market in Hastings (fabulous) and drove up Te Mata Peak. Lovely night away and I'd forgotten how gorgeous it is in the Bay.

Larapinta was good - hard too! Blog coming soon....your trip to the Bay sounds great. Look forward to hearing more in a couple of weeks time.

What an adventure, and not a snake in sight?!
I was with you until you started talking about bush toilets...but I can see how a drop toilet is luxury compared to no toilet :)

I was very happy to not spot a snake.....I didn't look out for them at all. As for the drop toilets, I did wonder what my life had come to when I was thinking that the long drops were luxurious!!

I think you may be becoming an aussie Rachel
I love your staycations as much as I love your foreign lands blogs. I admire you - camels are not the most comfortable things to ride. Am certainly going to drop into Mr Micks if I am ever out that way.

Camels
The good thing about this trek is that you didn't actually have to ride the camels! I was only on it for about 2 hours at a time, and that was manageable, then I just walked. And three days was plenty. DEFINITELY go to Mr Micks! If only for the semi-freddo :)

PS - I will always be a kiwi!! although it is 2 years today since I arrived here and I'm still enjoying it!
