Today was a lay day to catch up on some chores, washing, tidying car and van so we can get in them and then some shopping. It is great to just feel we do not have to rush off in the morning! Guess what we went for coffee ! and had a good scout around the town of V.H. Big place, grown a lot since I was here last and much bigger than Trish imagined. New big shopping centre is impressive with the best Woolworths I think I have been in, not that this is such a big statement, but it was impressive.
V.H. has all the services you would expect, plus some, as the population must triple in holiday periods, and it is only an hour and a bit from Adelaide. The buildings of the town are all old typical SA sandstone and fantastic but we heard that developers had gained control of and permits to knock down one of the iconic old pubs and a number of original old buildings at the Granite Island end of the mall to build a 9 story building! What sort of council would want to turn a beautiful bayside town like this into
Granite Island Granite Island Granite Island

Granite Island is connected to VH by a 'jetty which has a horse drawn carriageway down the centre of it.
a Surfers Paradise, let alone the knocking down of original old buildings?? We were told it was a done deal, passed by council, and with little people consultation, how can that happen ?? So as much as V.H. appeals at the moment I don't think we like where it is headed.

Tonight we are having BBQ lamb's rump and Veges also cooked on the BBQ for dinner. Tomorrow off to Cape Jervis and surrounds

VH!
I don't remember much of Victor Harbour when we went through on our way to Kangaroo Island but I do remember the horrendous ferry ride in the middle of the night on the way back! Argh! Never been more seasick! But it doesn't sound like they have got the right idea in developing it. So sad to lose so much heritage all for the sake of modern comforts :( Bloody councils.
