Dear Fellow Travellers Finally we’ve set off and our adventure is under way, first stop Coober Pedy. This tiny town oozes charm and personality and if I didn’t know any better I would have thought it was a ghost town with the only visible signs of life along the main street but that is why Coober Pedy is special. Even though it is only a 9 hour drive up the highway being here feels like I’m on a completely different planet (coincidently Coober Pedy has been used in a couple of si-fi movies as another planet). Literally dirt, like no grass anywhere and over 1 million opal mines/holes dug in the area, Coober Pedy is definitely as unique as they come. Hi every one, Before you dive in to our latest blog, we just thought we would mention that this one is our 700th Blog entry. I know you will say, so what,! you just write them and we just read them, but 700 entries, we have made. We worked out last night that based on a 40 hour week and each blog taking about 4 hours to produce, equates to 1.35 years of blogging, now that is amazing. Our first blog entries were made on the 30th September 2008, we initially were going to go with AOL for the blog and had published the first five entries on their site when they notified us and advised they were shutting their site down within thirty days, so we needed to go with a new blog provider and ... read more

We stayed in luxury last night at the Crowne Plaza in Alice Springs. We started the day with a buffet breakfast (included in the price). We then waddled to the car and drove to Coober Pedy. We are staying at the Caravan Park. We haven't decided yet where we will spend our last night but will let you know tomorrow.... read more
